Me again! I am sorry I missed that it wasn't your comment but the OP. I remember you always saying how you wanted to see Raps cut her own hair so I thought it seemed out of character for you to not like that piece of concept art. It really makes me dream of what the battle against Zhan Tiri would have actually looked like. Im hoping to get enough season 3 original plans to remedy what we actually got lol
Ah, no worries! lol
Yeah, to this day I love that she cut her own hair. That moment alone makes me tear up in the midst of a fight I was largely just ready to have over and done with. (And, as it turns out, one of the animators at Mercury Filmworks that I became friends with, @pattheanimator, is the one who animated that moment!)
I know some people feel that it belittles the moment from the movie where Eugene cut her hair to free her, but here's the thing: Rapunzel spent her entire life not having any control over her hair. When Eugene cut it, it most definitely was a sacrifice and was to save her life, and was valuing her over himself, but it still wasn't her choice. I don't think she was ever upset with him for cutting her hair, and she clearly loves the short hair enough to maintain it at that length. But when Disney told the series that they had to put her long hair back for it, it was going to have to be cut again, anyway, to maintain continuity.
Rapunzel didn't choose to have her hair come back, and tried to cut it again right away, and was unable to because of its unbreakable properties. So why not allow her to have control of her own life -- to set herself free -- by letting her be the one to cut her hair at the end (or, at least, choose who got to cut it and when)?
So, while I'll never bitch about Eugene cutting her hair at the end of the movie, I'm 500000000% on board with her being the one to cut her own hair at the end of the series.
