Ok, it’s official I am rewatching this drama.

It really is one of my favorite shows from anywhere and feels somehow real despite the old school (but then it IS old) melo beats. It has everything - star crossed young love, second chance adult love, poor abused good girl x bad tortured rich boy, terrible parents, the OTP that saves each other both emotionally and physically, unknowing daddy-son bonding, cancer and amnesia with a happy ending, and an OTP with so much tenderness and chemistry and just the feeling of it being real that it kills me.

Honestly whenever I check out stuff like never ending summer and the like, this is the high I chase - the one this drama gave me all the years back. I rarely get it though.

Noble idiocy (on FL’s part) has entered the chat. It really IS a drama from circa 2008 and I am eating it up.

(Grandpa trying to manipulate a scared guilt stricken teen girl is also old school though nobody threw money at anyone’s face or poured water on them, alas.)

Maybe I am an old heart hearted person but honestly while the break up was traaaaagic at the time (and in some ways it hits harder because they made both of them way softer and nicer than in the novel - the two of them really are just lovely lonely young people in love), I think their at the time course of action would not have ended well either. They barely have any money, she has no family except for the mom who hates her and would hinder in any way she can out of spite, and his family is evil and won’t just support but would actively wreck him if they can and neither has experience, education or cash to fight any of that. Chances of them getting good education and good careers and money and being able to consistently fight off all these people to do well in life and stay together throughout were basically zero.

Ok only semi related but I want to rewatch the ultimate peak (to me) poor FL from awful fam and rich ML from awful fam fall in love college age but she has to leave him for his own good and then they reunite years later and he’s forgotten her at first due to brain surgery and there is aaaangst drama - the Taiwanese drama Autumn’s Concerto/Next Stop Happiness. Mmmm. I watched it as it aired back then and it was torture - I was addicted but also terrified ML’s illness was going to come back blah blah blah mmm (also I still remember watching it and Mr Mousie coming in exactly at the college sex scene and going “why are you watching Asian porn?” in a tone of someone who only wants to know for informational purposes. 😂😂😂)

Vanness being a sexy hockey player before it was cool, insane about each other OTP, a ton of make outs and since it was twdrama it had a lot more teeth even within the melo set up than cdramas can.

And nothing hits for me as hard as old school twdramas (or old school kdramas) so AAAA

PS if you think you’ve ran out of ways drama parents can be awful, I present you ML’s mom who literally will not pay for ML’s treatment from deadly cancer (!!!) if FL won’t leave him aka better her only child be in the ground than with a poor and, even worse, escaping her control.
