THEY CALL THE WIND MARIA

(Songfic shipping a pre Doctor Who Patrick Troughton character and the reader)

One month in that damned spanish prison... 

The portuguese Gazio looked to the little portrait of his beloved, that he carried in the medal around his neck.

The other prisoners started a chorus, as a way to maintain the madness far, far away from their heads:

-Maria, Maria

They call the wind Maria...

Looking through his cell, Gazio started to acompany their singing:

-Away out here they got a name

For rain and wind and fire

The rain is Tess, the fire's Jo

And they call the wind Maria

Maria blows the stars around

And sends the clouds a-flyin'

Maria makes the mountains sound

Like folks were up there dyin'

The other prisoners cried wile continuing to moan:

-Maria, Maria...

-They call the wind Maria...

Gazio keeped singing, with a voice way more higher, like if he hopped that someone  listened to him:

 -Before I knew Maria's name

And heard her wail and whining

I had a girl and she had me

And the sun was always shining

But then one day I left my girl

I left her far behind me

And now I'm lost, so gol-durned lost

Not even God can find me...

The chorus also repeated it, and Gazio had the impression that people of other cells acompanied them:

-Maria, Maria

They call the wind Maria...

The portuguese spelled a tear from his eye and sighed, before continuing:

-Out here they got a name for rain

For wind and fire only

But when you're lost and all alone

There ain't no word but lonely

And I'm a lost and lonely man

Without a star to guide me

Maria, blow my love to me

I need my girl beside me...

Them voices fulfilled the entire prison, singing:

-Maria, Maria

They call the wind Maria...

And tired, poor Gazio finished his scream:

-Maria, Maria 

Blow my love to me!

This was the first fanfic that i ever made with a Patrick Troughton character (yes, with a character that he played before the Doctor). I originally posted it on Deviantart. Since it didn’t got any atention there, i decided to bring it here to Tumblr. 

Some months ago, i watched an episode of an 1960's british TV Show called Sir Francis Drake. The episode was called The Bridge, and it haved Patrick Troughton (most known as the Second Doctor) acting in the role of a imprisoned portuguese revolutionary called Gazio,  whom i really fell in love with. So i haved the idea of making a songfic with him in the prison, with the song They Call the Wind Maria, from the movie musical Paint Your Wagon. I think it haved an air of melancholy that  really could be relatable with the character of Gazio. When the Doctor had said he could help you, you were not quite expecting him to take you into a small, dingy police box—nor were you expecting said police box to not be small at all, but extraordinarily large on the inside. You ran out, peering at the box curiously before you stepped inside of it again, unable to keep from being mesmerised. “Are you alright there?” the Doctor questioned, looking only slightly smug as he stood in the centre of room, where there was some sort of contraption that began at the ceiling and ended at the floor. “I'm…” you paused, frowning. “I’m confused. It’s just a box. How can all of this be inside of it?” “It is not just a box, thank you very much.” He scowled at you, but his eyes were playful, as though he was enjoying your reaction. “It is what you people would call a spaceship, though it is quite a deal more complicated than that.” You inched closer to the centre, listening to the Doctor as you ran your hand along the panel of buttons in front of you. “Its real name is a T.A.R.D.I.S. Time And Relative Dimension In Space. It could take you anywhere you might ever have dreamed of. And it is not to be played with, so please, do not press anything.” He swatted your hand off the panel and you hopped away cautiously. “So this thing travels in space?” “And time,” he added nonchalantly. Upon noticing your expression, he said, “You don’t believe me, do you?” “Not quite, no.” You shook your head, your eyes wandering over the entirety of your surroundings. “It’s impossible.” “I think you will soon find that nothing is impossible.” He gave you a coy smile, then, and you couldn’t help but smile back. “And,” he sighed finally, pressing a few buttons and pulling a few levers on the control panel, “if you do not believe me yet, I suppose I will just have to show you myself.” You tried to object, but it was too late. The T.A.R.D.I.S was already moving, and you with it. You suppressed your panic, somehow trusting the man in front of you. He seemed to have already expected your next question, and grinned when you asked it. “So how come it’s bigger on the inside?”
