OTP question meme: 1, 4, 8, and 28 for David and Patrick

1. Who is the most affectionate?

They are both very affectionate, but David is more affectionate overall. He always finds some excuse to casually touch Patrick when they're in the store. For example, he'll come up behind Patrick and brush their sides together or hook his chin over the top of Patrick's shoulder. When he passes beside Patrick, he'll run his hand gently across his arm or back to let Patrick know that he's there.

When they're alone together, David loves wrapping his arms around Patrick and kissing his cheeks and forehead. He comforts Patrick through his touch, and it acts as a grounding source for Patrick.

4. Favorite non-sexual activity?

They love to cuddle up and watch movies and TV together after a day of work just to relax. On days when they have more time to themselves, they enjoy driving up to Elmdale and other surrounding small towns to check out local art walks, farmers markets, festivals, etc. Then, they'll go to a (slightly) fancier restaurant than the café and have a formal date and also go to the bakery that David loves for a treat later.

8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

Okay so David always tells Patrick how cliché and incorrect nicknames are, especially because he loves the way Patrick says his name. Patrick teases him about this, of course, by calling David by increasingly ridiculous nicknames.

"Hi sugar boo."

"I hate you."

But also, when they're in private, Patrick sometimes calls David "baby" or "sunshine" and it turns David into a pile of goo hearing the sweet, loving nickname directed toward him and only for his ears. And Patrick picks up on how it makes David feel, because he only uses those nicknames in a sincere manner (although a little bit of teasing sometimes isn't amiss)

David calls Patrick "sweetheart" or "honey" quite a bit. David likes the way Patrick flushes when he says them, and he likes being able to use a term of endearment with a significant other because it makes everything feel more special and intimate. David is strongly against any other form of Patrick, like Pat or Patty.

28. What do they do when they’re away from each other?

David hangs out with Stevie a lot, or spends time with his family/talks to them on the phone. He tends to feel very lonely when Patrick isn't around, so he tries to fill up his time with other people. He'll also write in his journal and brainstorm new vendor ideas and product placements for Rose Apothecary. He also gets into drawing again, so he spends time drawing when Patrick isn't around.

Patrick will catch up on some of his spreadsheets, make some projections, and other so called "boring business stuff" as David calls it. He'll also go hiking quite a bit if the weather is nice, or sometimes he'll go to the gym. He visits with Ray from time to time, too, because Ray is always saying how much he misses him. Also, Patrick definitely gets more involved in theatre after Cabaret, so he often is rehearsing if he has a role or just helping out various community theatre programs. Sometimes he'll go practice for baseball if it's baseball season, too.

18. Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

Patrick is the one who first starts leaving little notes for David on the days that they aren’t able to eat together. The notes are usually really cheesy and sweet like, I love you x or Have a great day x and he always leaves little x’ or hearts on his notes. 

Of course, it’s Patrick, so he uses the notes to tease David, too, like, Nothing’s better than coming home to you and the house that you swept while I was gone. x and Thank you for taking out the garbage ♡ (when David definitely hasn’t done them yet). 

Also, Patrick starts leaving the notes after a while of dating, and once they get married, he starts signing them as your husband.

(Patrick doesn’t know it, but David secretly saves all of the notes in a little box under their bed)

One of the things about David that Patrick learns early on in their relationship is that when David is passionate about something, he fully immerses himself into it. Somedays, David will spend hours researching potential vendors in the area and predicting how well their products would fit with the aesthetic of Rose Apothecary and with their regular customer base. And when they finally move into their new cottage, David spends hours pursing paint swatches and furniture combinations.

Patrick loves the dedication David pours into the activities he cares about. Seeing the way David’s eyes brighten as he passionately discusses something, even if it’s something that Patrick doesn’t understand in the least bit, never ceases to completely enthrall Patrick. It’s the way David’s voice edges the slightest bit higher as he gets excited, the way he whips his hands through the air so much that he almost knocks things over.

But as much as Patrick loves David for becoming deeply invested in things, it can also be a nuisance, especially when all he wants is for his husband to pay attention to him.

Tonight, the store is already closed, but the two of them are still there nearly two hours later. If it were up to Patrick, they would already be at home in bed together, but David’s been working intently on a new idea for organization to showcase their new products and is currently setting it up. The display itself didn’t take long for David to set up, but now, for the past thirty minutes, David has been squinting between the display and between his journaled idea, rearranging and adjusting products over and over again.

At first, Patrick busied himself with sweeping the floor and dusting some of their other displays while simultaneously keeping an eye on David. When the floors were completely dirt free, and the products were shining, Patrick decided to go to the café to pick them up some dinner, not knowing how much longer they would be there. David merely waved a hand in Patrick’s vicinity and hummed when Patrick asked him what he wanted, so Patrick got them both hamburgers, a relatively safe bet.

Now, after returning from the café and eating his food, Patrick is getting impatient. David hasn’t even touched his own food even though Patrick knows he must be hungry by now. As much as Patrick respects David and his process, he just wants to go home and spend time with his husband.

Patrick moves until he’s standing right behind David. He hooks his chin over the top of David’s shoulder and wraps his arms tight around David’s chest. David pauses his ministrations, craning his neck to try and look at Patrick.

“What are you doing honey?” David asks, thick eyebrows quirked up slightly and lips pursed.

Patrick beings pecking soft kisses down David’s neck. David squirms a bit in his arms.

“I’m still trying to figure this out,” David says, although he’s now tilting his head back slightly to give Patrick better access.

“You’ve been working for hours, David. I…want to…spend time with…my…husband,” Patrick says, peppering kisses between words.

“Patrick,” David whines as Patrick’s lips latch on to David’s earlobe, tugging ever so slightly with his teeth. “Urgh, you’re so distracting!”

Patrick smirks, pausing his kissing for a moment to turn David around in his arms so they face each other. David pretends to look annoyed, but the playfulness in his eyes and the slight uptick of his lips give him away.

“What can I say? My husband is just too gorgeous,” Patrick teases, reaching up and drawing his thumb over David’s bottom lip. “Please, can we head home for the night? I can’t resist you any longer. You’ve been working so hard, I think you need to take a break.”

David chases his lips, and Patrick moans as David’s tongue delves into his mouth. Suddenly, though, the lips are gone, and Patrick knows he’s pouting. Meanwhile, David is inching out of his grasp, eyeing the Styrofoam take out container sitting by the register.

“Why didn’t you tell me you got dinner?!” David questions. “I’m so starving!”

Patrick chuckles. “I did tell you, multiple times in fact. I guess you were just too busy.”

David is already opening the container up and taking a large bite of the now lukewarm hamburger, sighing in relief. Patrick wants to be offended that his husband is more interested in the food than him, but it’s more endearing than anything.

“So you’ll take a break for food, but not for me?” Patrick asks jokingly.

David swallows before answering, “You should know by now that I am very food motivated.”

“True, but I also know that you’re very motivated by other things.”

David smirks. He puts down the other half of hamburger that is left and wipeshis hands off on a napkin. Then, he stands up, stepping closer to Patrick while shimmying his shoulders.

“Patrick Brewer, are you trying to seduce me? How scandalous. What would your husband think?”

“Mmm, I’m not sure,” Patrick replies. “He’d probably be more interested in the fact that I picked up his favorite apple pie from our vendor this afternoon as a surprise for when we got home.”

David gasps, one hand flying to his chest. “Oh my god, Melissa baked us a pie, and you didn’t even tell me!”

“You were too invested in your project, I didn’t want to bother you.”

“Screw the project, I need that pie right now,” David states, already searching for his keys. Before he continues, though, he stops near Patrick, chewing on his lip thoughtfully.

“Then maybe we could motivate ourselves with other things,” David continues. “But only after pie.”

Patrick nods seriously. “Of course, I completely understand.”

They arrive back to their cottage about twenty minutes later after David finished eating and after they locked up the store. Sure enough, David goes straight for the pie that’s sitting covered on the counter. He cuts out a huge piece, plopping it onto a plate. He doesn’t even sit down at the table before digging into it with his fork, moaning as he puts the first bite into his mouth. All the while, Patrick watches him with a fond gaze.

“I love you,” David sighs.

“Are you talking to me, or to the pie?”

“Definitely the pie.”

For the rest of the night, their kisses are tinged with the taste of cinnamon.
