Introductions & Sketchbooks
Our first assignment of the semester is designed for us to begin to get to know each other, as artists.
The introduction assignment has 3 parts:
1.) Complete the introduction questionnaire that was distributed in class today and bring it back to turn in first thing on Wednesday this week.
2.) Create a “drawing” as a way of introducing yourself to the drawing class community. Think about what a manifesto is, and if you had one, what it might say. What is most important to you as an artist? Is there an object you could draw to express this? How would you describe your work? What could you draw to express this? Why do you make art? What do you want it to do? How could you express this in a drawing? Use this assignment to answer these questions visually and help us get to know you better. There are no rules beyond this prompt. Use the provided paper and bring your introduction drawing with you to class on Wednesday.
3.) We will spend the bulk of Wednesday’s class time in conversation about what you’ve drawn. Expect to share your drawing with the class briefly during this conversation next class session.
We also passed out sketchbooks today which you will be using to practice drawing for a minimum of 2 hours per week all semester long. Review more details about sketchbooks in the class syllabus, distributed today in class and also available online in moodle.
