My home for the next 5+ months!
Check-in & Casting!
Yesterday was extremely hectic and exhausting! But I'm finally checked in at Patterson Court with Rachel, we ended up in a 2 bedroom 5 person, our other 3 roommates are all international students! (New Zealand and China) Upon arrival (only get there 5 minutes early because they will turn you away) we all went to our housing complexes, walked to the clubhouse where we took our picture for our ID cards! Make sure to PRINT OUT your itinerary it will save you a lot of time. I had about an hour before Casting so my family and I drove to my apartment and started to move in. I had to be at the Chatham bus stop at 10:30 which wasn't a bad walk at all from my building, but always bring an umbrella where ever you go! Casting was a long process, I was there for a good two hours, but I had a few issues with paperwork which took me a little longer! Be social, this was the best place to start finding new friends! I have Traditions Friday so we are hitting the parks for the weekend!! Checking out 🏰✨🐭👋🏻

Day 5.2 - Aug 13: Room Tour
Here’s the basic room tour. I would have taken some photos just as we arrived but it was pretty bare then. Now we have found our ground, made some mess and decorated a little. I am living in Patterson Court - 6 People, 3 Bedroom Apartment. My house mates are Laara, Tilly, Amy, Tas and Anna (who I share a room with).
Enjoy!
outside view of apt 16
3rd floor stairwell to our apartment
view from the front door of our dining/kitchen area
more kitchen/dining area
our cute lil kitchen (Laara and Tilly’s room is just off the kitchen there)
living/lounge room minus a tv but plus internet (tas and amy’s room is on the left there and anna and i are on the right side)
note: the minties scattered all over the table
Anna and I’s room - My bed is the left one
The dresser plus closet
Bathroom part one - it’s just a sink and cupboard
Bathroom part two - our 100% awesome shower curtain!! We also have a green bath mat and have tried to focus all our decorating around this tree theme
We did have some cute Australian flags on our balcony but security didn’t think it was cute and we had to take it down :-(
As you can see we also have a really nice balcony which this picture doesn’t capture the full extent
That’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed my terribly boring 12 AM post about my apartment for the next 6 months. I really love it, which is great because it wasn’t our first preference! It has lots of amenities like a pool, gym, laundry (right next to us), mail collection, squirrels and cats!! Although it doesn’t have a bus stop, it’s only a 5-7 minute walk to Chatham, so I really can’t complain.
I’ll just squeeze another picture in here of the beautiful ginger Patterson cat
Welcome to our new home and have a magical day!
Not Everything is oh so Magical - 11.5 CP STRUGGLES
There are just some things I did not realize would not be so magical during my dcp. I am sure that many of my fellow dcp'ers can relate to these not so magical situations!
1. I work a lot and yet I am poor. I am only scheduled 30 hrs a week as of right now. So much for that working my life away, while my roommates are maxing out at 40 hrs a week. Between taxes, rent, groceries, and spending a little bit of money in the parks I am poor and dying to pick up more shifts. But alas there are no shifts to pick up because 1 everyone else is picking up the general non role specific shifts when I am working at the wee hours of the morning on Saturday nights and b all the part time people are fighting at the watering hole for any shifts that are being given away.
2. Transtar Buses. Need I say more? These lovely buses get us to and from work basically enabling us to rake in that little bit of money if we did not have the ability to bring down a car with us. HOWEVER. These buses are simply never on time the way it is written in the schedule. The drivers are mostly maniacs hitting other cars, driving into the gates, and jumping curbs. It is impossible to stand on these buses while in motion because you become very friendly with those all around you. Yes I have been late to work earning myself a 1/2 point becuase the A bus showed up 15 min early and chose not to wait as I was waving my arms frantically and sprinting towards the stop.
3. West Clock at night. In continuation of the Transtar situation, there is a ritual of fighting for a seat on the bus after the magic kingdom closes its magical touch points for the night and all the underpaid college program children get to go home for the night. It is often in a hunger games style, fight to the death, bum rush the bus doors because you are one of 100 who have been waiting 56 minutes until the next bus. You are a lucky lucky cast member if someone so chooses to grant you access to their passenger seat on their way home from work.
4. Sharing the 2 person fridge with 5 other human beings. Are we kidding with this fridge? I feel like my roommates are stocking up for the apocalypse via our refrigerator. You are lucky if you can find your cheese sticks to pack for dinner which just so happens to be around 11pm in the belly of a space mountain.
5. Spending all the money you don't have on things you don't need. With the little money we make, we spend in Disney! Let's be real the only thing to do on your days off is to spend them with your new found friends in the parks spending money on food and merch. The discounts are just so good you cannot help but to buy that minnie long sleeved shirt you don't need because it is a balmy 98 degrees out everyday or those disney food shaped magnets you don't desperately need for the fridge that causes 99% of the problems in your apartment. I mean the struggle is real with the Disney food and Disney merchandise.
6. Everyone who is not a College Program Cast Member hates you. If you are part time, you hate us because we take all your hours. If you are full time you hate us because we take all your hours. We are loud, obnoxious, and stupid all at the same time. We definitely cannot do anything right because we are children. You know much more than I do because you have worked at Disney 60 day longer than I.
7. Advantage CPs already have their cliques and you are not invited to join. Sure the college program is all about making life long friends who will be at your wedding someday. But no one told me that the people who arrived in May for the Advantage college program would all be friends with each other and proceed to think that you do not know anything because you are new.
8. The costumes help ruin your day. Oh my I get to work for Walt Disney World and wear one of those cute costumes! Wait a minute. Hold up. So cute... Until you have to wear one! My Tomorrowland outfit is so adorable with my lovely 'wings' and scratchy pants and frumpy sneakers. Not to mention everyone and their mother has worn this costume before me so NOTHING FITS RIGHT. I keep the best 5 i can find and wash them every day off so I can harbor the good ones like a fugitive. And you forget your nametag? Doom and Gloom. Find that bob or chris from Orlando, FL for the night. However these Treat shift costumes are the exception. Cute, everyone loves them, breezy with the skirt. Unfortunately, the floppy bat could use some work.
9. The language barrier creates awkward situations. Speak a the Spanish? No ma'am I do not. Espanol? No habla, lo siento. I really think that the minority is English speakers at WDW. There are so many international travelers here, the list of languages is endless. It is so difficult to tell the angry spanish speaking family of 15 in front of you that 'you do NOT have any fastpasses, and you have to visit the kiosk' This results in angry guests that yell at you in a language you do not understand while you flash that cast member smile and direct them politely away. I love the people who continue to stand and yell because they do not understand you are telling them that you cannot be of any more service to them and their fairy godmother has left the building.
9a. THE GROUPER POSITION. Even if you do speak English, sometimes finding your place on those numbers before you get on the ride can be a pretty tricky endeavor, especially if English is not your forte. I know splash mountain, big thunder mountain, expedition everest, test track, rockin roller coaster, and just about every other Disney ride allows you to sit next to your loved ones. BUT SPACE MOUNTAIN IS ONE BEHIND THE OTHER. One person to a number and that is it. if you want to ride with your bae or your brother or your mom or your bffe you need to stand next to them. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. And YES if I place you in 3 and 4 you will be separated by the large measurement of 10 inches during the ride and will not be in the picture together. SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP, you will be reunited in approximately 2.5 minutes.
10. The ANGRY guests deplete the magic from the entire enterprise. I cannot begin to count the number of angry guests I encounter a day. Many people who come to WDW are wonderful people enjoying their vacations. These are the people that make my days worthwhile. Then there are the guests that scream at your because little Jimmy rode space mountain 3 times earlier today and now is too short to ride. I am sorry but I will not let your child who is 2 inches short of the height requirement ride the ride just because the other cm let them slip through. SAFETY BEGINS WITH ME! I am also so tired of getting yelled at because space mountain is down for 'technical difficulties.' That is not my fault! I am just a human being trying to make some Disney magic. Not a mechanic that knows how to fix a 39 year old mountain named Stella. Please just let me make the magic.
11. Did I mention that Mother Nature is PMSing ALL THE TIME? It is either raining for days or so hot you don't feel the need to live anymore. Showers are required at least 6 times a day to prevent bad odors.
You better have your poncho with you at all times on your way to work as well. The wet look is not the the Disney Look. Hurricane season means you are consistently prunie when going outside and have no chance whatsoever looking pretty in any climate conditions in Florida.
If you are a cast member at Walt Disney World in the college program, God speed my friends. It's a bug-eat-bug world out there, princess.
