In the early 1970s, innovative and formidable electric bassist Paul Jackson was a founding member of pop music chart-topping band The Headhunters, together with pianist Herbie Hancock, reeds player Bennie Maupin and drummer Harvey Mason.
Foremost among the world's bass community for his rolling, funky bass lines, Jackson passed away last week in Japan, where he has lived since the mid-'80s.
You've probably heard Jackson's outstanding, genre-creating bass playing from that period on the tune Chameleon, among others.
Rest in peace, Paul Jackson. I'd guess that heaven can use some of that funky stuff right about now.
