There’s a character in this series I’m reading. Throughout the first two books and most of the third we only ever read about him from his own pov. He considers himself to be nothing special; his chapters portray him as a skinny, fairly weak guy who’s not too quick, and who is always messing up and confused about everything (I mean, at first he was dazed, suffering from amnesia, and traumatized from being forced to fight in a WWI virtual simulation for an unknown amount of time :/). At all times he’s like, “I do not know what to do about any of this, I’m so pathetic.”
But then at the end of the third book and through much of the fourth, we see him from other characters’ povs, and he’s almost unrecognizable. Everyone else sees him as this awesome dude who is so cool and so smart and nice and clever, and maybe even good looking (?) They take one look at him and they’re like, “this guy knows what to do, he’s so cool.”
And the crazy thing is, I can think back on his previous chapters and realize that he actually handled a lot of insane situations with cleverness and tact, he just thought he was a loser. And in the fourth book he’s saving the day left and right.
