On January 8, 1986, Maple Leaf Gardens hosted one of the most unforgettable shootouts of the 80s. The Toronto Maple Leafs, struggling with just 10 wins on the season, stunned the powerhouse Edmonton Oilers 11-9.
Miroslav Frycer was the hero, scoring four goals, including the game-winner, for the only time in his NHL career. While Wayne Gretzky (6 points) and Jari Kurri (6 points) still filled the scoresheet, Frycer’s big night stood tallest as Toronto outlasted the dynasty Oilers.
