TODAY'S FACT IS
Did you know that Zygopauropus Hesperius is one of few pauropods with 8 pairs of legs instead of the usual 9? These relatively new discoveries (described in 1948) were found on the slopes of Mt Diablo in California. These myriapods can grow up to a massive 0.57mm long, making everything around them self-conscious about their size (assuming any form of self-concept and insecurity). Like other pauropods, they don't have eyes. They rely on sensory hairs to give them the information they need.

An unusual abundance of pauropods. Pauropods are eyeless, minute (~1mm) soil myriapods (they are a sister group to millipedes and centipedes). They have a cosmopolitan distribution but are seldom seen, owing to their size and reclusive habit. Their ghostly appearance, wispy antennae, and unique start-and-stop locomotion make them very cute.
