Cheers to Henry Clarke
Im not really inspired by many photographers. Strangely enough a fashionphotographer would become the first to actually inspire me. That man is Henry Clarke. He was active during the 50's and the 60's. And I think the reason for his amazing photos are due to the usage of film, breaking new ground, but most of all because he was thinking more like a street/portrait photographer than a modern fashion photographer. His task was to photograph clothes, but he had no guidelines, so he focused on people, the surroundings, but most important of all, he didnt forget that photography is about fun and exploration.
The photo here is from a session at Amager Strandpark in Copenhagen in 2010. At that time I was studying Clarke's way of doing things, and I guess that affected my style that day. The balance is really what I do alot, but to focus on the feminine and letting the dress play a natural part, is defininately inspired by Clarke. I used some dias that day as well with the Hasselblad 500 c. A camera from Clarkeś time period, and that made It even more fun to shoot with his work in mind.
There are many good fashion photographers today, but I think many of them are boring, because they do "fashion photography", and forget that photography is instinct and feeling. Just because a photo is technically perfect does'nt mean Its a great photo. Its important to take risks. If we forget that, we also deserve a more boring media.
The dress is made by Charlotte Wiegand, and the jewellery by Mads Heindorff.
