Wednesday, July 13, 2016, Paws of Fame Los Angeles, Alumni and Friends of Guide Dogs for the Blind,  had a wonderful opportunity to participate in the 10th Annual “Dog Day At the Cathedral” in Downtown Los Angeles!  We set up a table and enjoyed meeting and educating over 1,000 people with their dogs!!

What a great way to be part of the community and help spread the word! :D

Paws of Fame Los Angeles: La Boheme

On Saturday, June 5, 2016 Paws of Fame Los Angeles had the amazing opportunity to experience LA Opera’s performance of La Boheme!  It was a beautiful day to get together and enjoy the performing arts!

Several of our members had never been to a live opera, so it was really meaningful to have had this opportunity, thank you LA Opera!!  We had such a wonderful time - the music and the performances were fabulous!!  I even was able to read a few of the super titles with my binoculars since our seats were a few rows closer than where our season tickets were.

What’s not to love in this beautifully, tragic opera?  Young love, true love, illness and death!  So happy that the Alumni and Friends of Guide Dogs for the Blind, Paws of Fame Los Angeles was there and our puppies in training and guide dogs were a hit too!! :D

We lucked out and had such a beautiful, spring day here in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 14, 2016!  Paws of Fame Los Angeles, Alumni and Friends of Guide Dogs for the Blind, had such a wonderful outing to the Getty Villa!

The morning was a bit overcast, but then the sun came out and it was just fabulous!!  The staff were very kind and professional.  We picked up the audio headsets but unfortunately, they were not accessible :(  Although the device was an iPod Touch, David tried to get voiceover on, but he couldn’t get it on, sigh...

David had to read the numbered plaque and type it into the device, so it really isn’t intended for rhose of us who are blind/visually impaired to use independently.  The numbered plaques did not have Braille either.  Regardless, I was able to listen to the audio descriptions and some were very good but most of the descriptions seemed to be more to enhance the visual experience.

The Getty Villa is gorgeous and I highly recommend that you check it out!  We sat outside and had a relaxing and delicious lunch at their restaurant :)  After lunch, we walked outside the gorgeous gardens.  The flowers were in bloom and fragrant!  We could have sat out there for hours and we did!! ;)  There are statues outside that we could touch and one we found even had Braille on it! :)

Paws of Fame Los Angeles, Alumni and Friends of Guide Dogs for the Blind, had a fun outing on Saturday, April 16, 2016!  The seven of us, with three working guide dogs and one puppy in training, met at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles.  We had an adventure and took the Metrolink train out to visit the Mission San Juan Capistrano :)  It was such a beautiful, sunny day!!

I was so happy that several of us took the challenge, got outside of our comfort zone and went on the train to somewhere new.  We arrived about an hour and a half later and decided to find a local pub to sit outside, enjoy the breeze and have lunch.  We then walked over to the Mission and took a guided tour.  The flowers were in bloom and the colors were very vibrant and the flowers were wonderfully fragrant!  

It began to get a bit too hot on the guides’s and puppies’s paws, so we left and headed back to the pub to relax and get to know each other better.  This is one of the reasons why I love Paws of Fame Los Angeles - we all bonded and I believe we became a closer “family” :)  It was a long but amazing day!!
