Huge spoiler, but hey I’m alive!
“How long have you been standing there?” Writing Event from my discord server.
Pax watched Jared looking around his living arrangements. Unlike Tommy and Owen, he didn’t bring a suitcase with him. All he had were the clothes on his back. Pax couldn’t help but feel…
Another A Graying World chapter is out now! Enjoy! (I’ll have another old chapter queued up here in a day or two).
Adriana Wilde, Owen Van Winkle and Tommy Bennett were made by @dandylion240. Camilla Kearns was made by @phyrcracker93.
“I’m coming with you,” Camilla said with no hint of hesitation. “I need to find Dionysus.”
“For what?” Pax asked. “Your family is here with us.”
“Of course my family is here,” Camilla said as if it was obvious. “But, there are things he knows about my people and my family that I need to know about. I have to find him.”
“The plan was to take Nerissa with me,” Alistair said, glancing at Charlotte who nodded in approval.
“You said you wanted to leave, right?” Charlotte asked. “Well, we’re letting you go back to your parents.”
“No!” Nerissa cried. “My friends are here. Let him take Graciela. All she has is stupid Maric anyway. She won’t be missing anything.”
“I have Leon too!” Graciela nearly shouted. “I can’t leave here until he comes back. I promised him I’d hear what he had to say in person.”
“Yeah, that’s why he keeps leaving right? He doesn’t care about you. He only shows any interest now because he feels threatened by Maric,” Nerissa spat. “And Maric just likes you because he’s just as weird.”
“Kids, gather round. There is something that grandpa wants to tell you all,” Charlotte called out the kids roaming about her home. They all knew that their grandfather’s visit wasn’t a simple hello and goodbye get together. He wanted to tell them something and only Graciela knew what. Charlotte watched her daughter, the one she felt most closest to. There was an undeniable connection between Graciela and her father, but nothing could come between the bond of Charlotte and her only blood daughter. Charlotte saw some of herself in the girl, scared yet fierce.
“Grandpa!” Waverly clapped his hands together in delight.
“Heya kiddo,” Alistair said. He made his way around the couch, hugging and kissing each child before collapsing onto the floor beside them. “I have some really important news to tell you and it isn’t easy to say.”
Graciela bit her lip and looked down at her jeans. Yet another person would be leaving her daughter, Charlotte thought to herself. First Leon, then Nerissa and now her grandfather whom she adored. Now what? “What is it?” Pax asked. “You can tell us anything.”
“Ok then let’s just rip off the band aid,” Alistair said softly. “I will be returning back to Moonlight Falls in a few weeks time. Your great grandpa Ethan is going to be coming with me.”
The children gasped, Graciela covered her face with her hands. “You cannot leave,” She muttered. “Please don’t leave.”
“It’s only until Moonlight Falls is safe again,” Alistair said. “I was the Keeper of Magic and I abandoned my mages. No good leader does that. The only reason Fortitude is such a safe place is because of Adele’s strong leadership. Now that Declan is out of power, I have to see what the situation is like and make a change.”
“Woah. Hold on a minute!” He moved to let go of the girl but she squeezed his hand tightly and pulled him back towards her.
“Smile and pretend. We don’t want to draw attention to us. We shouldn’t upset Gracie on her birthday. All I’m saying is that I’m leaving. You can’t do anything to stop me. I’ve made up my mind. And no…you don’t get to come with me.”
“You can’t make that decision,” Pax said angrily.
“I can, because I care about your sister. She’ll move on eventually if I’m gone. She’s done it with Leon. But you? You’re her brother and she needs you.”
“She isn’t over Leon,” Pax said. “She pretends like she is, but she misses him like crazy. You can’t get over a friend. That’s why she lets Nerissa walk all over her. She doesn’t want to let go of her friends! The only reason it seems like it isn’t an issue now is because she has Maric. But if anything, he’s distracting her, not making her move on and forget.”
“Well I can’t base my whole life on what’s best for Gracie. I love her like my own sister but she’s an adult. Gracie is in a good place now and she’ll recover from me leaving.”
“You’re her only friend that’s a girl,” Pax said.
“Well one day I hope she leaves this place too. It’s stifling, only seeing the same few people over and over again. She needs to branch out and see what else our dimension has in store.” She pulled away from Pax. “I’m sorry, but you can’t change my mind.”
Camilla had asked him to dance. That was a first for the normally “cooler than you” girl. She was either really into him, or something was up. Unfortunately, he knew it was the second one without a shadow of a doubt. She had been acting too strangely to have been simply crushing on him. “What is it?” Pax mumbled, looking into her eyes. “what’s wrong with you?”
She smiled at him and his heart did a flip. She really was beautiful, but he knew she would never go for him. She had friend zoned him a long time ago. “We can’t just dance, why does something have to be wrong?”
“Because,” Pax said slowly. “I know you. What is it that you have to tell me?”
“Your mom is going to send Nerissa away,” Camilla said slowly. “She said if she bothered Gracie again, she’d take matters into her own hands. She’s going to find out what Nerissa said to Gracie earlier.”
“I don’t mean to sound like an ass, but she’s been nothing but a menace to Gracie for years…” Pax’s voice trailed off when he saw Camila frown. “What is it?”
“I heard you and Gracie talking earlier.” She pointed to her ears. “Hello, I can turn into a cat. I know when people are talking about me. Everything you said was right. I can’t stay here. I love you guys and your family has been nothing but wonderful for me but I need closure. I have to go back to Moonlight Falls and make sure that Altiere and Damian and whoever, get what they deserve. And I have to find Dio.”
“You can’t,” Pax said. “It’s dangerous. You have a home here, who cares about Moonlight Falls anymore?”
“It’s always going to be my home,” Camilla argued. “Nerissa feels that way too. So if Charlotte is going to send her away, then I’ll go with her to Moonlight Falls. We’ll figure something out. She won’t treat me the way she treats Graciela, especially if we’re on our own.”
“Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. Something clicked when we were talking to Nerissa earlier. She said that you mentioned something about her parents. Well, think about it. We don’t know how Nerissa, Camila and Gregg feel about being away from their families. We grew up with our family around us.”
“You think that maybe they’re homesick? Nerissa did get very mad when I spoke about her parents…” Graciela bit her lip. “She misses them.”
“Maybe. I don’t know. Camila’s parents are dead,” Pax confirmed. “But I think she hasn’t accepted this life for herself. Even if it’s been a long time and she acts like she’s adjusted.”
“Pax, that’s really sad. Are you sure? But Gregg doesn’t know his family,” Graciela replied. “Still, he must want to know where he came from.”
“Keep it in the back of your mind,” Pax said as he saw Camilla approaching them. “Right now, just have some fun at your party, alright? Camilla loves you like you’re her blood sister.”
“Okay,” Graciela said with a quick nod. “Thank you for telling me.”
