7th Pay Commission To Submit Report Soon
It's been quite some time now that the Pay Commission were giving hints to the salary revision of the Central Government employees. However, the declaration of the 7th Pay Commission on September 23 keeps Central Government quite elated with their great recommendations. As per the reports, Seventh Pay Commission is all set to present its recommendations on revising emoluments for nearly 48 lakh central government employees and 55 lakh pensioners. Sources said, if things go well, the report will be furnished to the Finance Ministry shortly.
Earlier, the Government had extended the Commission's term by another four months (till December 31) for presenting the recommendations. However, the sources said that the commission is ready with recommendations and the report will be submitted soon.
Along with the Central Government, the 7th Pay Commission will also consider the salary of the State Government employees into account. To present that recommendation, the Union Cabinet has given more time to the Pay Commission before the original 18-month term was coming to an end. The current pay commission is led by justice A K Mathur. It was appointed in February 2014 and its recommendations are scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2016.
As for the other reports regarding this, the Government is supposed to constitute the Pay Commission every 10 years in order to revise the pay scale. However, such a measure from the government's end invited a lot of criticisms from the employees. According to them, their salary is much less than that of an employee working in a private concern in the same rank. While the Central Government takes about 10 years to revise the pay scale of its employees, the private employees enjoys more than double benefits during the period of 10 years. Such a scenario and government's rule will be modified in the current Pay Commission and will be accordingly implemented after the panel's final recommendations.
In order to that, the Commission is all set to be in discussions with various stakeholders, including organisations, federations, groups that are representing civil employees as well as defence services.
The 7th Pay Commission is formed of Meena Agarwal as the secretary with other veteran members like Vivek Rae, a retired IAS officer of 1978 batch and Rathin Roy, an economist.
So far, the employees were getting paid as per the rules of the Sixth Pay Commission which was in effect from January 1, 2006. The fifth commission was in effect from January 1, 1996 and the fourth from January 1, 1986.
