The pay gap in the U.S.
I’ll admit, when I started this project I was mostly thinking about myself, my experiences and how it would affect me in the future. I expected the results and the proof of discrimination to be readily available and that wasn’t the case. The murky waters of injustice obscure the vision and the loud voices of the oppressors silence the already quiet ones. I found many articles denying gender discrimination even exists, that the low income women often achieve is the result of choice, their choice, not of others choosing for them.
I disagree with that. From my childhood I remember stereotypes ingrained in my memory: “this is not what girls do” or “stay with me in the kitchen, how else are you going to learn to cook for your husband”, things my mother would say, probably because that’s how she was taught as well.
With that upbringing and many other examples of gender role enforcement, how are we not at a disadvantage compared to men?
I would like you to think about your own examples, perhaps forgotten, when you found out that you had different options than men and be an advocate for social justice by encouraging young girls to follow whatever dream they have and young boys that we are all equal.
