I kinda just wanted to get off my mind just how much of a liar Subaru is, haha. I mean, I expected him to lie about some things in Parent and Child considering that Subaru had purposefully obfuscated the existence of his crossdressing experience, but I just can't help thinking about it?
Because you have this passage in Parent and Child:
He claims that he hadn't been ostracized, that he was just treated like thin air (which to me was always an oxymoron, because how can you be treated like thin air and not be ostracized, unless it's yenpress pulling a silly here). But I took this to practically deny that he was bullied.
I had already thought he was lying because right after this he goes to describe his school days as being "painful" and that not going anymore gave him a sense of relief, coupled with him being outed as a boy in high school being cemented SEVERAL times as something being extremely traumatizing to the point he's willing to compare death to it.
Until we get hit with this at the start of arc 7 (to my memory, at least? I really forgot where I got this from, it's a very old screenshot I found abandoned in my gallery), where he himself outright confirms my suspicions that he had been lying.
Because this proves it's not just him being treated like thin air, but "there had not been much active bullying" says that he had, in fact, been bullied after the fact, and that he was treated harshly to the point he was used to it and even thought that his classmates were being reasonable.
So yet another experience that further explains Subaru's behavior and way of looking at things within the main story (easily being willing to forgive unfair treatment thinking he deserves it).
We still don't know what exactly happened when he was outed, but there's just way too many tidbits that have some very tragic implications especially with the confirmation that he was a victim of bullying before.
i just find it a little silly when both in canon & in fan works every character from a medieval-ish fantasy setting reacts to subaru's tracksuit like "ive NEVER seen clothing like this before in my life i have no frame of reference for this". like surely its gotta look a little analogous to SOMETHING theyve seen before, its not like everyones' wardrobes are historically accurate to some specific time period
i would just be assuming its some kind of uniform maybe? like its got some kind of emblem (the logo), a standing collar, matching design elements between the coat, pants, and shoes, vibrant contrasting pigments, colorful inner lining, seams placed more for style than structure. its just kind of weird that the material, whatever it is (something with polyester probably) is so loose and stretchy instead of something more starched and tidy? and it doesnt seem tailored to him at all (off-the-rack athleisure), and he doesnt even fasten the coat all the way, but who can blame him, who would want to do up all those tiny hooks in the front closure??! (no clue how a zipper works)
its like it ALMOST has the silhouette of a knight's uniform, & some features clearly convey wealth, but a few other details are just bizarrely anachronistically informal, so you cant tell if hes dressed up or dressed down. apparently somehow its both loungewear and activewear in his culture?? and hes just been wearing it to official meetings???
Something late xD but happy birthday Reinhard <3 Reinhard's biggest wish is to have a quiet dinner with his family, so I wanted to represent that wish :v:
