Here's Chapter Whatever-The-Fuck of Submission or something... god I don't fucking care
So this is another Dom POV chapter. I think the biggest takeaway is that while initially, I thought the split perspective might be somewhat interesting... It really just highlights how this whole story falls flat. Case in point: nothing you learn about this character is free. You are not playing two characters for the price of one. You are playing one god awful MC with infrequent trips into the mind of a megalomaniac.
So in this chapter you, as the Dom, fly across the country to bail out your sister, then you come back to Chicago and agree to be MC's "teacher". "Sho, that description was one sentence deep!".... I know!
Guys, there is nothing going on in here. Everything is just going through the motions, and this chapter especially feels like they made the decision to do the split perspective, but then... didn't want to write another perspective so they just kind of shoo you through it.
Their sister robin? that's not it lol Reese is literally a notes app brainstorm list of a character. She's vaguely activist age, doing vaguely activist activities, that somehow lands her in lockup.
Their friend How DARE they fucking do this to Tobias I'm gonna BITE Sloan? He's another vaguely simpering Dom who's vaguely associated with MC's Dom and has all the charm and originality of a chewed up piece of gum. Unlike Tobias omg I miss TOBIAS
Everything related to this character is paywalled. Ignoring the optional addition to the Dungeon Diamond Dump with the flogger (cannot comment on the scene, did not buy it, will not be commenting on any of the diamond choices, will not be buying them!), There's still nothing of substance behind them. You don't get to learn about the family situation. We still don't know why this motherfucker has a full on, live-in bodyguard as a divorce lawyer.
But what is it we do get for free? Hypocrisy and whining. Oh lord, the whining.
First of all, elephant in the room: none of this mattered in the previous five chapters of this book. Some of you may have heard to the grapevine that the next chapter has a long spiel about consent, and oh boy am I gonna get to that, but the same issue first appears here. Pixelberry goes out of their way to acknowledge the gross power dynamic of MC being the Dom's client several times in this chapter. That's not their fucking statement to make, especially not after this wacko has absolutely violated any sense of personal boundaries from the very jump (remember when they sent MC sexually explicit texts and like... a stock photo image of a flogger in chapter 1).
(this screen cap is actually from the next chapter, but I am realizing I did not get one of the Dom crying about not getting a phone call at the restaurant lol.)
Isn't an inherent part of charm and sexiness supposed to be confidence? Aren't we supposed to believe that this character is in control, gets what he wants, and knows how to get it? HOMIE WE LITERALLY SAW YOU LYING IN YOUR BED PISSING AND SOBBING BECAUSE SHE HADN'T CALLED YOU ALL DAY WHAT ABOUT THIS IS SEXY. IF I HAVE TO READ ANY MORE OF THIS I'M GONNA KERMIT
But I do have to read more of this because I am a woman of my principles, and I have a review to write. On to the next fucking chapter.
