My season is coming.
The Worst - Jhené Aiko
“The Worst,” is a single from Jhené Aiko’s 2013 album, Sail Out. I really enjoy her music videos because they’re often like mini movies. You see the police siren lights reflected in the room and you’r immediately drawn into the story because you know something is going down. As she goes to the fridge to get a snack, you see her step past a body on the floor, so it’s presumed that she murdered her lover. I love how she casually eats a peanut butter sandwich and puts on makeup as the police are surrounding her house and calling for her to step outside. I like the visual effects that make it feel as if she was in a daze when she did what she did. One of my favorite lines is “And you weren't special Til I made you so.” There’s so many layers to that. One of my interpretations is that someone can only take up so much of your energy and can only be important as you make them to be, not necessarily because of their relation to you. Although I love Aiko’s singing voice, I also love when she throws in some of her rapping skills as she did in this track.
