As years go by, Kyle and Eric grow closer even if Eric is still with Yentl. They have grandkids and everything, and Kyle is a close family friend. He's okay with this.
Yentl dies and Kyle and Eric start tiptoeing around their feelings, but they never do anything about them. Eventually, Eric gets really sick.
On Eric's deathbed, Kyle finally has the guts to tell him he loves him. Eric smiles, kisses Kyle's hand and says "I know". Kyle laughs and cries a bit, and kisses Eric's forehead as they hold hands. Not long after, Eric falls asleep and doesn't wake up again.
Kyle is a fucking wreck and goes back to being a bitter old man like he was before he and Eric became friends again.
He's still a family friend, so one day one of Cartman's kids asks Kyle if he can take care of one of their children for like, a week. Eric's grandkid.
Kyle can't say no, but he finds it really hard at first because the kid reminds him a lot of Eric when he was younger.
He's constantly angry, and the kid being a little devil doesn't help. He can't stand him.
But as the week goes by, Kyle starts having more fun with the boy's antics, reminding him of when he himself was younger and went along with Cartman's stupid plans.
When the parents come back from whatever trip they went on, Kyle is a completely different person. He's got a big bright smile and he's on the floor drawing with the kid (even if it's gonna be hard for him to stand up later, cause his back isn't doing him any favors).
