Emlyn Jones

A figure sits hunched low over a desk, light blue skin turned to almost milky white in the light of the candleflame, a rough crop of pure white hair on their head. The desk is covered in loose sheets of parchment, towers of books, a scribbled pile of notes. They’re reading through a page titled “The Breaking of the Cycle of Rebirth”. A tension in their muscles grows as they read further down the page, coiling uncomfortably in the space between their shoulders. The tension breaks as Emlyn grabs the book and, with a yell of frustration and a flurry of motion, sends the book flying across the room where it collides with the wall and then the ground with a thud. There’s a moment's pause as Emlyn stands, shoulders heaving, fists clenched. Then they take a deep breath and release it as a sigh. Their shoulders slump and they collect the book from where it landed, setting it back on the desk, reopening it to that same page. They steel themselves then continue reading.

Avina

Lost in thought, the candles around her flickered and sputtered, the incense pervading the room seeming to stir as if by an unseen wind. Her Harrow deck was weighty in her hands as they moved to shuffle it automatically. A simple spread would do, she just needed clarity. 

Taking a deep breath, she let the swirling smoke empty her mind and began to turn the cards over.

"Past..." she muttered to herself. The Tangled Briar. The Fiend. The Survivor

"...present...". The Empty Throne. The Midwife. The Juggler

"...future...". The Forge. The Marriage. The Waxworks. 

No answers, just more questions.

Lunamote Keeper

Lunamote woke from her dream suddenly, panting and sweating as the horrible images continue to swirl around her head. Her mother, hearing her yells of panic, burst in to console her and Lunamote slowly calmed down to her reassurances. ‘No, the town wasn’t underwater. No, there was no great flood. No, there weren’t any bloated corpses stuck by the bridge.’ Eventually, she was lulled back to sleep. A week later Lunamote was stood with a note clasped against her chest, protecting it from the torrential rain that had been thundering down for three days. She slipped it under the door and the quietly ran back home. Benjan Caeller, Sheriff of Ravengro, opened the note a few hours later and read ‘You’ll find bodies caught on the foundations of the bridge.’.

Amaranth

Scouting in Virlych, Amaranth is used to the the troves of undead creatures and desolate wastelands. In comparison, her home amongst the trees in the forests of Shudderwood is calm and peaceful. It had been serene and quiet for many years, if somewhat lonely at times. The silence of the forest can be deafening though, making it hard to avoid wrestling with the need to reconcile her two needs. The drive to hunt and destroy the evils of the world, to become redeemed. And the concern that the more evil she encounters the more likely she might succumb to the darkness that she was forced to faced everyday in her service in Lastwall.

The playlist was curated by Alice; to reflect her view of Amaranth and to give a flavour of who she is.
