29.02.20 Heddon Greta

Set out from the Central Coast today to get this cache for the leap day souvenir. I’ve been looking forward to finding this one and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Opened the cover and commenced to play the game but alas I was a failure on the first try. Round 2, and I hit a winner and soon worked out the GeoWord.

Sensational cache this one even with the mosquito’s nearly carrying me away from WP1 LOL. Nice little walk to GZ and then the search began, such a lot of effort went into all aspects of this cache I can’t but help give a FP!

It was a hot day today but so worth the effort of the drive and walk. Loved the creativeness of this cache which was a multi and required you to find WP1 and play a digital game of hangman with GeoWords. Once you get the word correct you get the coordinates to the final location. Short walk later and cache was in hand. Great cache next to the freeway in Heddon Greta.

3.8.19 - Strickland National Park, Ourimbah NSW

Headed to Strickland NP for a lovely walk today. Only a short walk, about 1.5km’s, on the Arboretum trail which meandered alongside a creek taking in the trees from all over the world. Some of which were up to 150 years old. Remarkable that they missed the chop of the lumberjacks of the early 1900’s!

Weather was perfect today at about 25 degrees but once we made our way into the deepest park of the forest it did get a bit chilly! Walk was fairly level and only passed a handful of people. Bird life amazing in the forest and I thouroughly enjoyed this walk.

7.7.19 OzGeoMuster 2019 - Wollongong

Well day 2 started nice and early with a small group of us “ladies” teaming up to tackle the geo art lighthouse. Claire & I were joined by Paula and Mandy who were our lodge buddies and here from New Zealand 🇳🇿. We had an awesome time and spent most of the day giggling ourselves silly. I found it highly amusing that the first stop of the day was a tree climb and yours truely was voted as the designated tree climber. After a quick boost I scrambled out on the limb to retrieve the cache and perform the signing duties of our little gang.

Back down on terra firma and it was a short drive up the road to the next cache. I unfortunately had the wrong coord’s and probably lost us an hour searching in the wrong location. Whoopsies 🙊 we eventually worked out the puzzle and found the cache. Just down the highway a little bit was a highly favourited cache (The Pheasants Home - GC21ET0) with over 300 fav points so we had to visit, seeing as we were so close. It was pretty great camo being tucked in a traffic sign.

After awhile the group decided to split so we could devide and conquer. We met the ladies back at camp where we once again rugged up and went to the activities hall to enjoy the food truck stalls and the night markets.

Monday morning we were on the road by 10am and on our way home, stopping just to get a few more caches of course! Had such a wonderful time at the event and the organisers did such a wonderful job. Just faultless! It was so lovely to make some friends as well. Really looking forward to next year and the adventures to come!

16.02.20 Seaham

Headed off for a little geocaching adventure today and decided to head north. Went through Raymond Terrace and continued north a little ways then turned west towards Seaham.

Stopped first at Balickera Pump Station and Canal, which has a large area for picnics with some covered sitting areas. Fortunately for me it was deserted today allowing me to search in peace. The search did not take too long and I soon had the small sistema container in hand and logbook signed. On to the next one!

Continuing on into Seaham where we stopped at a bird observatory platform to find a nano on a metal structure then made our way over to the other side of the swamp to find another on a short little bush walk. Lovely to hear all the bird life nearby as we searched for this pair of caches. Lovely little oasis for the bird life.

Next on the list was a micro at Seaham Cemetary. This cache had a few favourite points and was allegedly a bit tricky, which I was keen to investigate. Sure enough the hint was “extra support” so I thought I knew what I was looking for. I had the right idea but was not thorough enough in my initial search, this took me about 15mins to find. The camo was excellent and blended in beautifully.

Wonderful drive through the country seeing some lovely farmland. Stopped at Hinton Bridge which was completed in 1901 and is an Percy Allan timber truss road bridge, it is one of only three lift bridges in the Hunter region. There was a cache under the bridge which had a beautiful view.

Across the road is an old pub called the Victoria Hotel that was established in 1840, with some live music it is a lovely place to stop for lunch. Hinton is only a short drive to Morpeth then a quick link back to the Pacific Highway. I really enjoyed this drive and explore through this area. Looking forward to coming back to explore some more.

19.01.20 - Swansea Heads

This marked my #1311st find. Drove to the Illawong Park and made my way into the trees. Headed down a path that looked promising, but alas it was a dead end. Took me a little bit to find the right path in but third time lucky!

Managed to get to GZ easily enough and took another 5-10 minutes to locate the container. I definitely made this harder than it had to be but it was a good adventure.

Unluckily for me it is the wrong time of year so no whales to see but did spot a jet ski whizzing by enjoying the waves. Wonderful sunny day to go exploring the coastline. Such a nice spot to sit and look at the ocean.

A new cache was published within 5kms of home so headed out on a hot day. The coords were about 171m out! But after a bit of rummaging then levelheadedness I figured out where I should be and quickly found the cache.

Then headed back down to Budgewoi to find a newly placed cache near a caravan park. Hot out in the sun today but worth it to find the 2nd TB.

The HAVOC Xmas party on the shores of Lake Macquarie. Good catch up with some #geocaching friends. And I even got to meet Santa.

20.9.19 - La Perouse Snake Show

Drove down to the northern headland of Kamay Botany Bay, near Maroubra today to see a snake show followed by a first aid session put on by GCNSW. Was interesting watching the snake handler and learn how to recognise a few different types of snakes. Learnt that I was misidentifying some of our most common snakes.

The first aid session was very informative where we learnt how to bandage a snake bite, handle a spider bite all the way down to dealing with a tick or leeches.

After the show and demonstration, a small group of us decided to get a few of the nearby geocaches. Went for a short walk with Sensible Shoes & CoastBlue (with children as well). All were easy finds and one was even a tree climb (guess who ended climbing the tree). Had a great time walking and talking amongst the group!

Ended my day with a short (Ha!) 2 hour drive home. Awesome day out, thoroughly exhausted. Great day.
