Snapper Point Rocks
Went for a drive out to the headland today to play with my new camera. Beautiful day with just a light breeze but still warm. Lovely little flowers just off the path.
Enjoyed trying out the depth of focus feature on the camera. Looking forward to using this camera in the future.
01.03.20 - St Albans Geocaching Event
Headed out nice and early today for a Geocaching NSW event in St Albans. I really enjoy the drive out this way and it was lovely to catch up with some friends and meet some new people.
After a beautiful lunch, walked over the road so the others could find a traditional cache that I have found before. Then walked over to the park to get the answers for the Earthcache that is there as well.
It was a pretty hot day today, I think close to 40 degrees so a cool lemonade was definitely required. Then it was just the long winding drive back home mid afternoon.
29.02.20 Heddon Greta
Set out from the Central Coast today to get this cache for the leap day souvenir. I’ve been looking forward to finding this one and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Opened the cover and commenced to play the game but alas I was a failure on the first try. Round 2, and I hit a winner and soon worked out the GeoWord.
Sensational cache this one even with the mosquito’s nearly carrying me away from WP1 LOL. Nice little walk to GZ and then the search began, such a lot of effort went into all aspects of this cache I can’t but help give a FP!
It was a hot day today but so worth the effort of the drive and walk. Loved the creativeness of this cache which was a multi and required you to find WP1 and play a digital game of hangman with GeoWords. Once you get the word correct you get the coordinates to the final location. Short walk later and cache was in hand. Great cache next to the freeway in Heddon Greta.
16.02.20 Seaham
Headed off for a little geocaching adventure today and decided to head north. Went through Raymond Terrace and continued north a little ways then turned west towards Seaham.
Stopped first at Balickera Pump Station and Canal, which has a large area for picnics with some covered sitting areas. Fortunately for me it was deserted today allowing me to search in peace. The search did not take too long and I soon had the small sistema container in hand and logbook signed. On to the next one!
Continuing on into Seaham where we stopped at a bird observatory platform to find a nano on a metal structure then made our way over to the other side of the swamp to find another on a short little bush walk. Lovely to hear all the bird life nearby as we searched for this pair of caches. Lovely little oasis for the bird life.
Next on the list was a micro at Seaham Cemetary. This cache had a few favourite points and was allegedly a bit tricky, which I was keen to investigate. Sure enough the hint was “extra support” so I thought I knew what I was looking for. I had the right idea but was not thorough enough in my initial search, this took me about 15mins to find. The camo was excellent and blended in beautifully.
Wonderful drive through the country seeing some lovely farmland. Stopped at Hinton Bridge which was completed in 1901 and is an Percy Allan timber truss road bridge, it is one of only three lift bridges in the Hunter region. There was a cache under the bridge which had a beautiful view.
Across the road is an old pub called the Victoria Hotel that was established in 1840, with some live music it is a lovely place to stop for lunch. Hinton is only a short drive to Morpeth then a quick link back to the Pacific Highway. I really enjoyed this drive and explore through this area. Looking forward to coming back to explore some more.
05.02.20 Mt Penang Gardens
Spent the day at Mr Penang Gardens today exploring the gardens and seeing some lovely plants. It was a hot day today so thoroughly enjoyed being by the water.
Some of the water lilies were flowering white, pink and yellow, which was lovely to see. Also, the waterfall was flowing which created a great atmosphere and a soundtrack while walking around the gardens.
Wonderful to see some bees enjoying the flowers and there were plenty of birds in the gardens as well. Enjoyed seeing the Christmas bush which starts flowering at Christmas time.
Didn’t stop at the cafe today but carried on to some nearby geocaches. Overall had a lovely day out playing with my new camera.
25.1.20 - Bilpin
Decided to head towards the Blue Mountains today to see the devastation after the fires recently. The drive through the burnt trees was surreal to see how much had been affected by the fires.
Stopped at a few local cideries and purchased some ciders. Bilpin Cider Co was chockablock and we needed to park down the road and walk back. Hillbilly Cider was great fun and also very busy. Also trying to help the local businesses we stopped and bought and apple pie at Mountain Bells Cafe, they had a great range of products and the apple pie was delicious. Pie In The Sky Roadhouse Bilpin was a great shop to stop and buy a meat pie to take home for dinner.
Overall a great and eye opening day out.
19.01.20 - Swansea Heads
This marked my #1311st find. Drove to the Illawong Park and made my way into the trees. Headed down a path that looked promising, but alas it was a dead end. Took me a little bit to find the right path in but third time lucky!
Managed to get to GZ easily enough and took another 5-10 minutes to locate the container. I definitely made this harder than it had to be but it was a good adventure.
Unluckily for me it is the wrong time of year so no whales to see but did spot a jet ski whizzing by enjoying the waves. Wonderful sunny day to go exploring the coastline. Such a nice spot to sit and look at the ocean.
30.12.19
A new cache was published within 5kms of home so headed out on a hot day. The coords were about 171m out! But after a bit of rummaging then levelheadedness I figured out where I should be and quickly found the cache.
Then headed back down to Budgewoi to find a newly placed cache near a caravan park. Hot out in the sun today but worth it to find the 2nd TB.

The HAVOC Xmas party on the shores of Lake Macquarie. Good catch up with some #geocaching friends. And I even got to meet Santa.
7.11.19 Went for an afternoon walk on Frazer beach and watched the sunset
3.11.19 - Dubbo Zoo
Drove out to Dubbo on the Saturday and stayed in the Savannah Cabins in the actual zoo. Got up early and made our way over to the entry gates. Had a quick spin around the gift shop and stopped by the cafe for a morning coffee and some brekky.
Now that we were sufficiently fuelled up we headed off to see some animals. Got to see the rhinos by ourselves as everyone else had moved on. Then watched the giraffes being fed right beside the zebras.
Continued on to spend sometime looking at the African elephants, cheetahs and a Mumma rhino with a baby. By now it was the feeding and animal talk time of the hippos (my favourite animal in the zoo). Ended up watching the hippos for about an hour.
Carried on around the zoo before making the 5 and a half hour drive home. Stopped in Dunedoo to get a pie and take a pic of Neptune which is a part of the virtual solar system drive. The virtual solar system drive starts at Siding Spring Observatory, 28 Km’s west of Coonabarabran. There are 24 planets located at visitor information centres and on roadsides between the observatory and the regional towns of Dubbo, Tamworth, Gulgong, Moree and Merriwa.
27.9.19 - Picking up Bruno
Headed northwest today ending up about halfway to Tamworth, to pick up our new kitten, Bruno.
He didn’t enjoy the car ride too much but managed to make it home without any problems. After 5hours in the car we are happy to be home 💜

20.9.19 - La Perouse Snake Show
Drove down to the northern headland of Kamay Botany Bay, near Maroubra today to see a snake show followed by a first aid session put on by GCNSW. Was interesting watching the snake handler and learn how to recognise a few different types of snakes. Learnt that I was misidentifying some of our most common snakes.
The first aid session was very informative where we learnt how to bandage a snake bite, handle a spider bite all the way down to dealing with a tick or leeches.
After the show and demonstration, a small group of us decided to get a few of the nearby geocaches. Went for a short walk with Sensible Shoes & CoastBlue (with children as well). All were easy finds and one was even a tree climb (guess who ended climbing the tree). Had a great time walking and talking amongst the group!
Ended my day with a short (Ha!) 2 hour drive home. Awesome day out, thoroughly exhausted. Great day.
Strickland Forest Walk 6.10.19
Another visit to Strickland Forest today to do some of the other walking tracks on offer and of course, to get a few geocaches along the way.
Beautiful day today, temperature not too hot. Started out wearing a jumper but quickly had to take that off as we started walking.
So nice to walk amongst the trees and only hear the wind through the leaves and the birds song. Track started out pretty flat then gradually became very overgrown in places. Some places we almost lost sight of the track. Eventually we started making our way down into the valley.
After a while we came across the waterfall then continued on the lower track to circle back to the car. Of course the walk back was all uphill! Definitely took us longer getting back to the car than getting to the waterfall.
A really nice walk and the track was not too long. Wouldn’t want to do this walk in summer!
15.9.19 Yarramalong Valley Spring Festival
Enjoyed a lovely drive through the Yarramalong Valley today, on the look out for scarecrows that have been entered into the scarecrow competition as part of the Yarramalong Valley Spring Festival 2019.
Made our way to the show grounds where we proceeded to walk around the stalls taking in the produce of local farmers and artisan crafts. Couldn’t pass up taking home some Orange Marmalade with Whiskey & Ginger. Also had to enjoy a cold ice cream on a hot day!
The wildlife show was interesting where we saw a range of lizards, birds, a goanna and a snake or two.
Great little event and I look forward to going next time.
7.9.19 Lostock Dam and Oakhampton Heights - Day Drive
7.9.19 Part 2 - Maitland
We made our way back to Oakhampton Heights in Maitland, and went for a walk around the Walka Recreation and Wildlife Reserve. There is a series of about 15 caches in the reserve with some others interspersed. It was a lovely walk around the reserve and the miniature train line was so cute. Would’ve loved to have seen a train go by, maybe next time.
Walka Water Works is a heritage listed 19th century pumping station that was originally built in 1887 to supply water to Newcastle and the lower Hunter Valley. It has since been restored and preserved, making it a highlight of the Walka Recreation and Wildlife Reserve and popular place to get married or host events.
I managed to find 9 out of the 15 in the series. Unfortunately for me I lost my pen somewhere between cache 13 and 11, hence the photograph at each subsequent cache. Most of the cache containers were 3D printed and some were very well hidden. The train container was my fav as it was close by the train tracks as well. Gave it a fav point for the clever container. Kingfisher_Au is the cache owner of this series.
Today was a cold and windy day but it was still a lovely walk and the weather kept the muggles away. I’ll post the video of the drive for the day.
