So my home test was negative again today, even with the throat swab. And I thought, okay, fine. It's probably a weird cold or a sinus infection or something. Only then I immediately see yet another person complaining of the same symptoms and how their tests keep coming up negative--and then again, other people commenting that they had the same thing and only the PCR test came up positive.
Okay. Fuck it, I thought. I will just try to get a PCR test. So I can know for sure.
Oh silly me. Trying to get a PCR test in America.
Once again, California has put this information on a website that takes several steps to get through (and only the final page was offered in Spanish too)
Then. Oh boy, then, the pop up testing centers in each town are only one day a week for a few hours each. So if you can't travel easily you are SOL and if you don't have a car, I guess your infected ass is taking the bus to infect everyone else.
All the testing centers want you to make appointments 3-4 days in advance.
They each only show the next day's booking times.
These booking times are full.
So it's 3-4 days in advance BUT ACTUALLY it's get up at 6am looking for tomorrow's available time slots and frantically trying to fill in your information before they are all booked up and you get bumped.
Now imagine you are, say, SICK WITH FUCKING COVID, and you are being tasked with all of this, just to get a test response to allow you to get treatment/time off work etc.
And yes, I suppose in normal times, in a functioning country, one could go to the hospital for testing but, well....
