Application: Aranea Serket
[x]
How old are you IRL? 21
What character are you applying for? Aranea Serket
Why are you interested in this character?
I can't exactly remember my intial interest in writing Aranea, but it's one that I've had for a while, I've just been admittedly intimidated by writing someone as verbose as her. I'd like to try my hand at her, because I think she'd be a fun challenge! Plus she's adorable and I hold a bit of sentimental value with her. What is your personal interpretation of this character?
How would you describe their personality?
Aranea comes off as your typical, bookish nerd. She loves nothing more than telling stories and relaying the vast amounts of knowledge that she's acquired. And while this does draw from her excitement to share the things she's interested in, there is a bit more to it. Aranea is a show off. She wants to show people how smart she is, she wants to educate based on a self righteous attitude.
This isn't to say that she's a bad person, or that her narcissism is a trait that should be seen as an inheritly destructive one... However, under the right circumstances, it certainly can. Aranea is prone to feeling unappreciated and taken for granted. If her buttons are pushed just right, a hostility that seems almost uncharacteristic for a mild mannered girl can take over. When things don't go her way, she will take control of the situation. She will rectify wrongs as she sees fit. But this arguably could also be a good thing, it really would just depend on the situation.
Aranea loves all books. Fiction, non-fiction, any genre. She will read just about anything she gets her hands on, but the more fantastic the tale, the better. In her heart she yearns to do bigger and better things, which is reflected in her love for such stories, but she makes little effort to live such a lifestyle, unless situations like the one above are presented. In which case, fanfare suddenly becomes second nature, just to prove herself.
What would be your character’s major or occupation? It’s fine to be undecided, and you can change it later if you like!
Aranea is majoring is History with a minor in Psychology. She's currently unemployed, but she does volunteer at the campus's library.
Give a physical description of your character.
She's about average height, standing at 5'5", with a curvatious build and a bit of chub in the middle. Her skin is olive tinted and a bit tanned, as she does enjoy getting out and soaking in the sun. There's nothing quite like reading in the park, after all. Her eyes are blue and her hair is a chocolate brown and rather meticulously curled. She pays a great deal of attention to her appearance, making herself up and always being sure to wear something feminine and presentable. You'll really have to try if you want to see her looking anything less than well kept.
Give an example post of your character in this AU.
"It's an incredible tale! While I admit that there are many cliche tropes for a romance novel, it hardly takes away from the enriching character development and surprisingly complex plot." Aranea was in the beginning stages of a long winded summary of her current read. Finger tips passed over the smooth cover the paper back, retelling it's words with such accuracy it was as if they were being transfered straight to her through the contact.
A well versed account needed to be presented in a very particular way. Story telling was an art, no matter which form it took, and this was an art Aranea took very seriously. No important detail would be left unspoken, for if she left anything out, than the story would fall apart. The moral, the reason the story even exists, would become lost.
Really, she might as well have just read the damn thing to her current listener, but so engrossed in her own words she didn't even notice that they had long since left her.
"Hmm? ... Where did you go?" She huffed when the realization that she had been abandoned finally hit her. This was always happening and she did not appreciate it! Time and time again she's asked for help or recommendations while working at the library, and just as frequently she was left talking to herself. Why did they bother if they truly didn't care?
But oh well, she wouldn't let it discourage her. It wasn't as if she was at fault, after all.
