Application: Roxy Lalonde
[x]
How old are you IRL? 20
What character are you applying for? Roxy Lalonde
Why are you interested in this character?
Well for starters, I think I can do her dialogue better than any other character's, and would love the chance to prove it in such a high quality chat. I respect her character, strengths and flaws alike. Her perspective strikes me as well, with her enduring positivity, even in the light of sacrifice, her flippant portrayals of serious concepts, her dedication to her friends. It is the personality of Roxy which captures my heart, as I see the strength in her to be so unique. There is a more personal reason, as well. Her character puts me at ease, actually, I feel like I can move more, in her, if that makes sense, and I would really like to have her as an option in this roleplay. The mixture of Roxy with a veritable crowd sounds like a hell of a fun time, seeing as she is so extremely socially minded.
What is your personal interpretation of this character? How would you describe their personality? She is the Rogue of Void, not the herald of it, not destined to submit to it. Yet she is not immune to it entirely, no space player is she. She was raised in the void of her mother, after all, and is so well known for classical methods of void-filling, such as alcohol, escapism, and romance. She overcomes all of this via sheer determination, bending metaphorical (later on, literal) Void to her will. The source of this will is her value system, which is to say, the emphasis she places on her friends. It is for there benefit that she steps from the void, breaking off addiction, respecting their positions, putting their quests before her own. This is all in the macro, of course. In the finer view, her day to day life, she does not overcome her struggles flawlessly, and never in one bound. She pines, she wines, she relapses. She can indeed have bitter moments. (This too, I love. This humanity. Roxy is nothing if not three-dimensional.) The interpretation which I would bring into this roleplay is cheery and rambunctious, self-flattering yet silly and self-sacrificing. She would be very verbose, but not always so tactful. She was born the daughter of a wildly successful author of fantasy, and sent to grow up in Rose's hometown, apart from the venom of fame. As a young child she would read her mother's books whenever she felt lonesome or missed her. This seeded in her an unusually deep fondness for wizards, which never even tried to shake. It lead her to investigate creative hobbies, such as writing and roleplaying. In high school she was introduced to a very party oriented lifestyle, and found it to be extremely liberating, at first. Genetics played against her, and she became addicted to substance abuse, something she has yet to fully shake.
What would be your character's major or occupation? It's fine to be undecided, and you can change it later if you like! A sophomore transfer student. She is a chemistry major, though she minors in English. The success of her mother has both inspired and inhibited her hopes of becoming an author, and so she regulates the passion to minor. Besides, Chemistry is no boring subject for the girl, having grown up with laboratory playsets and maintaining an interest all these years.
Give a physical description of your character.
She has a twiggish appearance, very flat, yet angular. It appears unnatural, unhealthy, though her eyes are bright, and she does not often display illness. It is no help that she is quite pale. She walks tall, but her varying shoe types would have you guessing specifics. She keeps her hair short and blonde, styling it when she has the motivation.
Give an example post of your character in this AU.
Her Chemistry class is almost at it's end, but she hasn't taken in half of the information covered. Oh well, she can always read the chapters later. For now her mind is occupied, surveying the men of the class as discretely as possible. This place is quite the buffet of hotties, but her eyes keep drifting back to the one just three seats over, two rows in front of her. Maybe it's just the angle, making his beefy arms look impeccably cut, maybe its the way his shirt stretched in just the right places... maybe she just appreciated the style of a scarf and the good dye job. She starts looking at the clock, checking to see just how much time separated her from him. She filled that time reciting cheesy pickup lines in her head and thinking out exactly what she would say when these fifteen minutes were up. The class hummed with the noise of release and she picked up her bag, which she had already packed, discretely. She sauntered over to the guy without a drop of sensuality. She's far too carefree for that. She puts a hand on his desk and finally sees his face. Gorgeous. She has the tendency to see beauty in anyone, sure, but this guy was top quality, by her standards. This might be the most delicious beef cake she ever had the chance to taste. Her plans change in a heartbeat, in part because she forgot all she had rehearsed. “Hey guy, you catch all that?” She gestures to the board. “The name's Roxy,” she speaks all this slowly, a hint of tender supplication shows through the casually amicable tone, “and I'm scouting out a study partner for this semester. Sound like something you'd be interested in?” The corner of her mouth hitches up as she slays the half-ruse and continues with, “I mean, since you seem like such an interesting guy, I wouldn't mind spendin a few hours finding out. Hell if that's not to your tastes maybe we can just do that last thing.”
