The Pope Brings Hope
It's about time people are treated like people. I can't help but just be utterly confused when it comes to the lack of equality for the LGBT community. I remember when I was 13, the topic of gay marriage came up as a conversation topic and I was completely confused. I had no idea that people who love the same sex were not allowed to get married. So naturally I turned to Google to find out more about the rights people are denied because of their sexuality and was disgusted by some of the responses that appeared through religious institution. I also inevitably found the Baptist Church group. -shudders-
It seemed ridiculous to me how much of their rights were "constricted" by the Bible, Koran, and other holy texts that are supposed to bring comfort. All they want to do is live their lives in peace and in love. The fact that it is the 21st century and equal rights are still not distributed in the United States, the land of the free, much less within other countries, is appalling. But the actions of the Vatican are breaking grounds for acceptance. Pope Francis has openly stated, that homosexuals offer “gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community.” It is refreshing to see religious institutions expanding their viewpoints to include all sorts of people. For decades, the Catholic Church has made it s stance of homosexuality crystal clear. Just last year, Pope Benedict had claimed that same-sex marriage interferes with the “justice and peace” of the world.
