I had quite an interesting day at the Kissimmee “No Kings Day” protest. Of all people to show up, @kait.meow was there—and she honestly jumpscared me when I turned my head and suddenly saw her with two masked guys (and one unmasked, lol) roaming around trying to get interviews. Meanwhile, the volunteers and organizers were clearly trying to defuse the situation.
At one point, she ran up the circular ramp with her “guards” following her like it was some kind of video game escort mission, heading toward the bridge above the highway to bother more people. Eventually, police came, who started parking near the bank because of the disruption she was causing. She then walked—then ran—down the ramp with her group to meet the officers and immediately started using them for content, shoving a camera and mic in their faces and wasting their time before walking off to set up more shots for her recording.
Before the event ended, we tried to take a group photo. For some reason, she decided it was a great idea to push a kid out of the way just to photobomb us. She ruined the kid’s photo—he was trying to take a picture for his family—and then walked away with a smug grin like she’d done something great.
She stayed the entire time until the very end, and once the officers left, she stuck around just to do a photo shoot of herself in front of the bridge. Honestly, it’s just sad. Wasting police resources for content—and using them like that—feels completely unnecessary. Especially considering that last No Kings Day at the same location in June had no police presence, and a news station simply came and interviewed us instead.
I guess this year we got a chaotic content-chaser running around with her crew.
Stay aware and stay safe.
