Young Commandant. Long hesitant to post images of the conflict for its problematic aesthetics, but decided to as other images of the environment and climate denote another form of violence. High mountains did not shield people from the effects of war that connect in rather banal and casual ways. Invited to drink tea, I wondered where soldiers would hide their guns which he simply took under the pillows we were sitting on. The pose he struck spontaneously reminds other popular images of warlords and commandants. The factions of the conflict share a stake in the important pastoral economy, trading livestock to armed groups in the lowlands. Whilst threats are often overtly exaggerated in terms of military interventions, violence erupts at times and linger on in trauma or preemptive distance, soldiers patrol but rumours blur supposedly clear cut affiliations.
