1) Conduct military patrols (Outlaws, raiders, etc.) 2) Collect taxes 3) Repair dams, roads, bridges, etc. 4) Arbitrate disputes between vassals (Inheritances, borders, guild monopolies, etc.) 5) Prepare for winter (Stockpile grain, etc.) 6) Make policy decisions (Local level)

DS9 Station and Bajor are symbiotic. Bajor supplies DS9′s food, most of its population, and its political status as a fairly neutral, safe place. DS9 brings tourism to Bajor. It’s interesting that I thought of that first, because the value of the safety that a giant floating weapons array gives to a planet is enormous, but in peacetime the tourism seems more significant.
