I’m not trying to hate on Snoopy so much or anything, bc I really don’t hate him and he is so adorable

but sometimes I wonder how all those cute Snoopy accts on Twitter/Tumblr feel about the fact that canonically LUCY of all people actually cared more abt Charlie Brown when he was in the hospital than Snoopy did during that strip storyline LMAO

Like this is real, a lot of CB’s other friends showed there care for him here too but not Snoopy. And I know he’s a dog, but just watch Snoopy Come Home or read the strips about her to see how Snoopy reacted when she was in the hospital lol

Anyone Sorta Feel Snoopy Liked Lila More Than Charlie Brown?

I’ve been thinking about “Snoopy Come Home” lately, and honestly I feel like there’s a chance Snoopy actually legit liked Lila over Charlie Brown.

Now don’t get me wrong, I know Snoopy was crying so sad to leave Charlie Brown + everyone when he left for Lila in “Snoopy Come Home”, and was so happy to see the sign and come back to Charlie Brown.

But at the same time, if you really think about it, when Snoopy found out Lila was sick in the hospital, what did he do?

Snoopy immediately rushed to the hospital as fast as he could, saying Lila needs him. He traveled all that way to see her, even staying nights in the wilderness + under a bridge, and the two were even crying together once they were reunited.

When Snoopy knew that Charlie Brown was sick in the hospital during some strips in the 1970s, what did he do?

Nothing, Snoopy didn’t give a care about Charlie Brown at all.

In fact during the time Charlie Brown was in the hospital everyone else showed that they really cared about him deep down despite how they often treat him.

In fact, even LUCY, of all people, actually showed more care towards Charlie Brown during that than Snoopy lmao

Not to mention that in the comics, Snoopy even actually said once that he “loved Lila more than life itself”.

Meanwhile with Charlie Brown all Snoopy does is act rude, is almost always never really there for him when he is bullied or wanting a friend, and is quick to abandon him many times before.

(There are many times where Snoopy will act like a jerk towards the other kids too not just CB, and he won’t care lol)

Now I know that Snoopy does care about Charlie Brown deep down, and he was so happy to go back to him, I'm not making this to hate on Snoopy or say he is always horrible to Charlie Brown, because that’s not true.

But at the same time the main reason Snoopy went back to Charlie Brown was because of the "No Dogs Allowed" sign. If that sign wasn’t there, what would he have done? Is there a small chance that Snoopy could have permanently stayed with Lila?

Something Interesting About Snoopy

I've been thinking about Snoopy, and I’ve thought about something interesting about him.

In the first year or two of the Peanuts comic strip, Snoopy was actually a fairly normal dog at first. But around 1954 onward his character changed to him performing fantasies and not wanting to just be a normal dog, albeit they started off as Snoopy pretending to be other animals or other people only, until later evolving into more crazy ones like pretending to be a WW1 Flying Ace, Joe Cool, FlashBeagle, etc.

But what’s really interesting in some of these 50s strips, is that there are multiple strips I’ve seen that show Snoopy actually hating to be a dog.

Even though later on Snoopy can be proud to be a dog, there are actually multiple strips where he used to be really sad/self-loathing of being a dog and even wishes he wasn’t one (There was even one where he thought “If I was a human being I wouldn’t even own a dog!”).

Now think about how later on the strip reveals that Snoopy used to have a previous owner named Lila. Lila and Snoopy really loved each other, he was so heartbroken when she had to leave. It was too much for him to see Lila again when she came to visit, he raced as fast as he could to the hospital to see her, and he burst to tears in Snoopy Come Home.

But if you think about it, when Snoopy was with Lila, he acted completely like a normal dog with her? Aside from playing instruments in a band as a puppy, when he was with Lila he acted completely like a normal dog, even happily playing normal dog games such as playing fetch (While Snoopy later on almost always refuses to play fetch with anyone).

In fact Snoopy only started to refuse to do things like a normal dog like doing dog commands incorrectly, walking on two feet all the time, sleeping on top of his doghouse instead of in it, etc., was right after CB adopted him.

And I know it was different in the strip, but in the the special Snoopy’s Reunion it was stated that Lila had to give up Snoopy back to the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm because no dogs were allowed in her apartment.

It’s possible that Snoopy was so heart broken being left by Lila, along with other things (Other strips show Snoopy struggling/hating the fact that he had to be separated from his family in the first place, getting kicked out of places that have no dogs allowed too, and more stuff like that), so he could have internalized hating to be just a dog, and so that's how he started to become the dog that refuse to be an ordinary beagle we all know and love.
