Day-to-day Amphibia: Pottery with Pearl Following in her grandmother’s footsteps, Pearl’s trying her hand at pottery. She’s not as skilled an artisan as her grandma yet but she’s taking lessons. Her first batch of butterfly teapots are complete and it was quite a challenge!
More Day-to-day Amphibia: Baking, Archery, Proposal, Juice, Crossbow
So, in my predictions for what could possibly happen in Escape to Amphibia, i noted that the death of Mr and Mrs Boonchuy(Likely at Darcy's hands) would serve as a pretty devastating, but thematically fitting end for Anne's time on Earth, and to establish a true Hero/Villain relationship between Anne and Darcy.
I noted though, that i personally found it pretty unlikely to happen, simply due to how dark it would be. And i planned to leave it at that.
Then I remembered this.
In the last episode before Anne once more leaves planet Earth, this time possibly for good, is when Anne finally gives her mother the gift she gained for her in "Hopping Mall".
The Butterfly gift.
Butterflies, a symbol of death and rebirth, who's association to which was constantly used through season 2 to foreshadow that Marcy was going to die.
And in the episode in which this gift was introduced, butterfly imagery was constantly used to associate with a Dead Mother.
With both Priscilla and Pearl wearing butterfly accessories, while still grieving over said dead mother/grandmother.
With the entire plot revolving around the two parties trying to obtain a butterfly themed tea kettle, which was the last thing said dead mother ever made.
And at the end of that episode Sprig and Anne have a deep, and emotionally charged moment over their feelings over being separated from their mothers, one of which is dead at the moment this episode takes place.
Nor is it the only moment where Mrs Boonchuy is associated with butterflies, as her first physical on screen appearance had her wearing a hairband with the likeness of one.
Also, just for those curious where, Blue Butterflies fits in with the whole Death and Rebirth thing, it is specifically the part that represents that the death of a loved one is fast approaching, or that there has been a recent death.
Marcy:*to an annoyed Lady Olivia* So...Her? *points to General Yunan*
General Yunan:*having a gnatchos eating contest as Gertie, Bella the bellhop, Priscilla and her daughter Pearl, cheer her on*
Lady Olivia:*sighs* Yes. Her.
Could you draw older versions of Polly and Pearl arm-wrestling?

Priscilla the Killa and her daughter Pearl
Little Frogtown and Hopping Mall!
There’s not much to say with Little Frogtown, other than that I enjoyed it! It’s hilarious how Hop Pop complains about ‘colors’ getting in the way, even though Amphibia doesn’t even HAVE colorless movies (or movies at all) to begin with, so why is he complaining? He talks a lot of being one for tradition, but I’m starting to wonder if he’s also lowkey a hipster!
I will have to say, while I saw the twist with Sal coming from a mile away… His little speech at the end about embracing change, accepting it so you can have your own stake and say in it, and even managing to salvage a little bit of the past in the process… It legit made me tear up a little? I have no idea why, it just DID, it came out of nowhere and that seems to be a trend with this episode, genuinely giving me feels when I least expect it!
Also, I love that ‘hidden twist’ with the secret recipe literally just being colored ditch water! That’s such a subtle, brilliant, and hilariously rewarding way to hide such a reveal without immediately giving it away!
Hopping Mall hits hard… I like Priscilla Paddock and Pearl, I appreciate how Priscilla was initially introduced as mean and harsh, but then we see her kind relationship with her daughter Pearl, and we see that she’s not necessarily a bad person, just a bit competitive! There mother-daughter relationship was SWEET in this episode, how Priscilla sets up her kid as amazing and born to win, but Pearl understandably is concerned about her mother’s tail injury (which is making me think back to that one shop for prosthetic tails)…
I wanted to start off the Amphibia- Amphibian only Month with the Spraddivy confession comic but the script is still confounding me, so instead here's a little Polly x Pearl page since a number of ppl wanted more of them. To recap, Pearl is the daughter of Priscilla the Killa and after the war became a traveling gladiator where upon a visit to Wartwood, met Polly and the two struck up a quick friendship (and Polly's first crush).
