Bonbon is ten years old now, and with age comes health related issues which are just naturally bound to happen. In this photo you can see her back leg sticking out, which isn't normal.
So I took her to the vet. Her muscle mass is the same on both sides, and she's still got strength in both feet which is good. Unfortunately, she does have a spinal disease which affects the joints, and it happens naturally with older animals. Because of her leg, it's been difficult for her to hop in and out of her litter boxes, as her foot keeps getting caught. So I went out and bought a couple of large cooking sheets from Target and some pee blankets from Chewy that are super absorbent, and we tried them out tonight. She figured out right away what they're for, and she used both the one in the family room and in her enclosure several times tonight.
I just tucked all sides of the blanket under the sheet, and now I can rest easy knowing that she isn't going to get her foot caught anymore. She is also on pain medicine every day now, which the vet said is perfectly fine. At this point, we're just trying to make sure she's as comfortable as possible. She's still eating and drinking and getting around okay. She just needs some accommodations now that her needs are changing.
For anyone wondering about the pee blankets, I'll include the link here. I got two of the three count 24×36 sets and they fit around the cooking sheets just fine 😊
