While I’m thinking of it, i would love to trade some sketches of your OCs for some peer editing on my finished drafts -- aka just like, adding comments on a google doc, however in depth or shallow you want it to be!
Not professional editing in any way, it could just be saying “I liked this part!” “This part feels off idk why” or it could be idk.
But I’ve been out of ideas of what to draw lately anyway, so it’d be a great trade i think/hope!
I’ve been editing papers and short stories and writing my own stories for the past few years and I have something I have wanted to say for a while. I won’t lie. Now, first, this is not to say that everyone sucks at writing and should be point blank when doing it, quite the opposite. However now being at the college level, there have been a few things I have noticed now that I am experienced in peer-editing written works.
The transition is harsh to follow or don’t follow at all
Flow is not something that a person is good at as soon as they put words to the page. It is something that comes through with practice. It is never going to be easy to just have the words come and flow both contextually and logically. Like any form of art, there MUST be taken out of the day to practice. Changing up style, trying something new, finding a flow that works best for you.
DETAILS—verbs and imagery
This is mostly for those in creative writing or do personal writing but still absolutely applies to academic writing. No matter in what situation, there has to be an argument that has to answered to, sometimes that involves telling a story to get there. Sometimes when it comes that, it can be difficult to make what you have imagined into something that you can see once again in your work. That comes down to practice again.
It is not to say that your work is bad but only in need of a polish. That is why some (like myself) write and edit later. I am very verbose, had it written on my own essays a time or five. I had to figure out how to cut down the verbs and fluff to make things more succinct to say.
Never worry about what you write!!
The first draft is never gonna be the best thing you make! But without it, there is not a foundation for the final! I see it and professors and teachers see it when you turn in the first draft. I know procrastination is a terrible bug that we all deal with from time to time but making at least a dent into what you need to write, and if you don’t finish it entirely, you will still be better off in the long run.
READ OUTSIDE OF YOUR GENRE!!!
I cannot stress this one. If I can tell that you read your own writing more than you read anything else, the style shows. It leaves a feeling of desire for something more, like there is something missing, and not in a good way. The fulfilling feeling after reading a novel verses someone who is forced to write something will likely always be better, because there is a sense of completion of a thought.
TL;DR
Practice your writing, write what you want, try something new, and go outside and read something new!
peer editing when you have to write your name on the sheet: this was really good!!! I noticed you made a few mistakes in this paragraph, so here are some suggestions on making it flow more smoothly
peer editing when it’s anonymous: reading this gave me cataracts what the fuck kind of last minute keysmash did you make me read I could glue macaroni to bristol board and hand it in and it would still make more sense than this pile of shit
Let’s Help Each Other Out!
So here’s my situation: basically my dad has decided to suddenly start charging rent, for an amount that I can’t afford. I only work a part time job due to depression and anxiety (which I’m taking meds and getting treatment for but these things also cost money). So I’m looking to make a bit of extra cash to help get through the months. Here’s where you come in!
I know that school has started up once again and it’s gotten to just about that time where assignments start pouring in. Now I don’t know about you guys, but for me the one thing I always had trouble with was making sure to edit my papers and assignments before handing them in. Now that I’m not in school anymore I help a lot of my friends who still are with their editing and it’s made a big difference for them. I want to extend that same courtesy to you.
I guarantee that you’ll get your assignment back within two (2) business days, with all of my edits marked in red so you can easily spot them. If you need it back sooner than that, I totally understand, just let me know that it’s urgent and we’ll work something out.
Subject isn’t an issue for me, I’ve edited history papers, speech pathology papers, linguistics papers etc. Whatever you’ve got, whether it’s high school, college, or university, I can edit!
Send me a message and we’ll work out the pricing together. I want this to be beneficial for both of us: you get your paper back better than it was before without breaking the bank and I get a bit of extra money to live on.
(P.S. it’s 100% okay to signal boost this. But I know that there are so many tragedies going on the world, so only spread the word about this if you can. I would really appreciate the help but I know there are people in worse situations than I am that also really need help. Thanks!!!)
If you ever have a paper or writing response and you need it to be peer-edited, feel free to ask me because: I am currently taking a professional editing class, I loveee peer-editing, and I like helping!
lowkey hope i dont get in to this other class bc im not sure i can handle it rn
Peer editing don't you mean writing my entire paper while a single concerned onlooker watches in detached horror
