What's Open and What's Not This Summer?
Forget Summer is Coming. Summer is Here. Unless you’re on a co-op term or taking summer classes, in which case you might as well be so north of the Wall you’re one of Craster’s children.
Assuming you’re wandering Westeros with your favourite Khaleesi or assassin-in-training this summer, here’s what’s open and what’s not across campus. You never know when your journey will take you off the beaten path of the Kings Road.
The Food Bank is open all summer long on both campuses. Feast like you’re at the Red Wedding - without any of the unfortunate aftermath. Make a request at http://foodbank.yourstudentsunion.ca
Stressed Out? How Do You Deal?
When did we get to March? I’m positive yesterday it was still September. It stresses me out just to think about. When I’m stressed, my go-to activity is inappropriate snacking. Usually I’ll be jonesing for something salty like a(n entire) can of Pringles, but in a pinch anything will do. Last month, I polished off a jar of olives in my parent’s fridge because my only other options were jars of horseradish, relish or going to the grocery store.
I’m doing my best to honour my New Year’s Resolution to take better care of myself, which means cutting down on my stress sodium and finding better outlets to manage my frustrations.
If you’re feeling out of sorts this month, Peer Help Line and Student Connect are here to help you get back in order.
Find Out The Real Story of Drugs and Alcohol at Laurier
Missed Bruce McKay last night in The Concourse? Here's just one of the many facts he presented last night. Want to see the rest? Check out the album on Facebook.
How is Peer Help Line Making your Transition Back to Campus a Smooth One?
For me, summer always truly seems to be over during the last night of Orientation Week. It’s the final weekend before classes start back in full swing, and while it’s probably my imagination, I’m sure I can feel a little bit of that crisp autumn air creeping in.
Whether you’re at Laurier for the first time, or back after a summer away it’s good to take this first week or two to get acquainted (or reacquainted) with your campus and community.
If you’re on campus on Thursday, the Peer Help Line team is set up in the Research and Academic Centre West Lobby (Brantford) and the 24 hour lounge in the Fred Nichols Campus Centre (Waterloo) and they’ll be there providing information about the services your campus offers as well as some information about your city. It’s a great opportunity to learn something new about your home, even if you’ve been here a million years.
Still, there’s something really cool about taking time to explore on your own. Do me a favour and take some time by yourself, grab something pumpkin flavoured and go for a walk around your new community. You never know what hidden gems you’ll find hiding just around the corner.
