He had a mission to get back to. That was his only thought as he waited in the run-down, abandoned building he’d found himself in since going AWOL. He didn’t know why, or what he was waiting for. They would find him, no matter what he did. They would make him complete the mission. They would make him forget - what? What was there to forget? The woman with the dark hair, dark eyes that made him ache, the streets of the city... there was almost something, but then it was gone again. The soldier shook his head. The two targets, Carter, and Captain America, were still out there. That was what he should focus on. That was the mission he needed to return to and complete.
Then he heard the door being kicked down and shot to his feet. “Don’t.” He warned, the sound low and terse. He still wasn’t used to speaking. A warning shot would have been smarter, would have been the ordinary move of the soldier, and he grasped for his gun, holding it steady at the door. “Don’t come in.” @cptcvrter
