i think all of those fics have a similar emotional underpinning, which is that jack feels like his position in their friendship/relationship is precarious and temporary. and the thing is, he's not really wrong about his insecurities, especially given the time and place where they all live; it genuinely would be a lot easier for peggy and daniel to be a couple without him being involved, and that's without even getting into the fact that their entire dynamic has been a complicated mess of shifting loyalties and betrayals from the very beginning. i think jack has a very cynical view of relationships in general, and he's well aware of the way his past choices have impacted both peggy and daniel, so he doesn't really trust that they'll want to keep him in any real way.

Spinning, Unspun was a particularly fun one for me to write, partly because i really enjoy writing loopy out-of-it hurt/comfort, but partly because it takes place when the three of them actually are in a relationship already, but it's new and fragile and something jack views as temporary, at least in his part. so it's not really the physical intimacy that's throwing him for a loop, because he's used to having that; it's the worry and concern and emotional intimacy when he's vulnerable and helpless. he's a character who's very concerned with being impressive and competent, so being cared for when he's neither of those things is a really fun emotional dynamic to poke at.

and i just really love writing peggy as intensely practical and prickly about offering comfort, even (or especially!) when it's motivated by sincere concern and affection. i think of the three of them daniel is the one who's most capable of being somewhat normal about giving and receiving affection; the other two are much more concerned with maintaining a front, though in very different ways.
