you are not unimportant <3

Well, technically in the grand scheme of things, I am very unimportant since I’m just one person in a huge crowd of people, from which many are more talented and intelligent than I am. If I die, the world won’t stop turning and people will move on because I’m just one person.

However, if we put the importance into the perspective of one person, it changes a lot because individual people are not the world; their worlds will shatter when someone important to them dies, no matter how unimportant to the world they are.

I think the ripple effect is much more concrete in this world than most people think. To many, it might not be important that a complete stranger stops to hold the door open for them but to someone it might save them from running late or just it might just simply lift their mood; we can never really know. Stopping to help someone might change the course of their day to a completely different direction, just because a complete stranger stopped to give them a little bit of money or help them gather the contents of a broken bag. I don’t think any of us could live one day exactly the same way twice because all these little things we do have a ripple effect and the outcome of the day would be completely different.

We all have our circles, the people we know, the people we’re friends with, the people we’re related to and whatever happens to one people in those circles might affect others in a lot of ways. One person in the circle losing a relative might make another call theirs to make sure they’re alright and one person in the circle saying something to another might sparkle a whole new interest in another.

Our pasts and our personalities are composed of the people we’ve known and interacted with and that’s why everyone is such a unique person, because no one, not one person, can have the exact same past with the people they know and in that way, can not have the exact same personality. That’s why everyone is important in one way or another because they all have their own, special outlook on life that they can have only because of their past experiences. Some people have been bullied and are forever bitter about that, others have had a good childhood and think they’ve deserved the happiness and good times. (Which I kind of agree with, everyone deserves basic happiness and good memories.)

I think I want to be the kind of person who can cause positive ripples to reach others, the kind of person who might be just the helpful stranger but who can make at least one person smile everyday. I know it might sound weird but doing that makes me feel like I matter more, like I can do at least something good in this world. I know I can’t stop the climate change or terrorism alone but if many enough people try to do it with me, we will be able to do great things. I know I’m only one drop of water in a limitless ocean, but what is any ocean but a multitude of drops? If we all give it a shot every day, we can make the world a better place, just by being those kind strangers that stop to hold the door open a little bit longer.

(Also yes, I know it was just a reaction to the one post I reblogged but I like to argue sometimes :”D)
