Season 1 of That 70s Show is giving Pelíšky vibes. We have the nostalgia, the satire of a certain time period (late 1960s' and 1970s'), the political overtones, and even the characters:
We have the nerdy teenage boy main character
The girl next door that the main character is in love with
The bad boy with absent parents that's in a love triangle with the main character and the girl next door
The father with a short fuse
The dumb dad
The ditzy mom
And the sweet and loving mom.
Of course, one is a movie with a defined story arc and ending (which is bleak) and the other is a long-running show, but I kinda wish they kept the same tone throughout (minus the teenage love triangle).
Pelíšky (Cosy Dens)
If anyone is looking for an excellent Czech film then I cannot recommend this one enough. It follows the inhabitants of a Prague apartment building between Christmas 1967 and the Warsaw Pact invasion of 1968. The humour is both dark and warm-hearted and very Czech.
