Weather whiplash
Sharon and I took a Monday ride to Petoskey. When we left Cheboygan, right around noon, it was 63 degrees. Eighteen miles to the west, in Pellston - the self-proclaimed “Ice Box of the Nation” - it was 84 degrees.
In Petoskey (19 miles southwest of Pellston) it was also in the 80s and a handful of people were swimming in the bay.
On the way back to Cheboygan, around 4 p.m., we ran into heavy rain and hail. At our cottage, on Lake Huron, the temperature was 47.
Incidentally. my overall impression of weekend activity in northern Michigan (as opposed to some other parts of the country) is that people here are proceeding with caution toward whatever comes next.
