Day 6: Gender/Sexuality

Most people follow a normative expression of gender, although if someone is not cis that is not seen as strange. For sexuality, there is no heteronormativity.

Day 5: Civilizations and Architecture

Since the continents are separated by climates and terrain, the architecture in each region is also different in necessity and style.

Westerners have houses made of bamboo or slate; they get a lot of rain. Government buildings are made with slate and are usually two stories tall; records are on the top floor, protected in case of monsoon floods. Government buildings are painted in jade or red, with gold accents.

Central regioners live in houses usually made of colorful mud or clay, or bright green bamboo imported from the West. Their houses are made to be cool in the sun. Government buildings such as the magistrate’s office are long rather than tall, and the outside of the buildings are made of mud or clay and the walls are intricately carved with Western symbols and bright colors.

Easterners are a boat peoples. The east has many rivers and lakes, and most people live on the water or the water’s edge, in wooden houses. Further out, they also have wood houses. Government buildings are located in the middle of the biggest or most central lake.

Southerners have the mildest climate and live in the trees, with branches as their roofs. The government treehouse is painted in royal colors.

Northerners live in igloos or underground caves. imported from the East and government buildings are huge, intricate, ice houses made by the best ice carvers.

All government buildings are painted or naturally jade green with gold and mother-of-pearl details. All public buildings such as theaters are painted a coral color for luck. Businesses often to choose to color their buildings pink or purple, but never blue. Blue usually symbolizes mourning.

Day 4: History

The current era is called the Golden Peace era. 500 years ago, there was a war called the Great Than War, caused by a group of Yeuthan that wanted to become greater than the Nuthan. They went around draining the life forces of humans and animal spirits, then targeted nuthan to become immortal. Humans fought back along with the Great Tailed Beasts, and many nuthan refused to join in for fear of their life force being drained. Finally, the Sky Emperor decreed that the Nuthan must fight back against the Yeuthan. The Yeuthan were defeated and pushed back to live in the far East of every region where the land is harsh and acrid, as a punishment. As a result of the war, Tailed Beasts remained in their habitats and are now rarely spotted and there is a great rift between humans and nuthan. The period after the war was called the Golden Peace era, which has persisted until now.

Day 3: People and Races

Humans: Humans do not have any magic, although there is the rare human that has meditated for 100 years to receive magical abilities, then they are called namthan.

Humans have many different colored eyes, from blue to gray to green to brown to black to even orange or purple or pink, although the warm colors are more rare. Humans tend to stay in their regions from when they are young, or make a migration maybe once or twice and choose to stay after that, as work is also divided among the regions. Those who live in western regions tend to have golden skin with yellow undertones and dark hair. Central regions have dark skin and dark, curly hair, as they get the most sun. Easterners tend to be very pale with light skin and light hair and light eyes. Southerners tend to be caramel colored with light hair and light eyes. Northerners are pale with dark hair and dark eyes.

Nuthan: Silver eyed, or gold eyed if very powerful. It is impossible to steal the life force of a nuthan unless you are also a nuthan, or a high immortal yeuthan. Nuthan are immortal and stay youthful forever, although they died if they are physically killed, such as by stabbing, beheading, hunger, sickness, etc. They have various magical abilities, although the basic of these is healing, travel, weaponry, elemental, and sense enhancement. They heal faster than humans and namthan, and some can even regrow limbs if given enough time. They cannot a head, although if they are powerful, they can regrow a liver or even a heart. Traveling abilities manifest in either cloud travel, the ability to breathe underwater, super speed, or teleportation. They can wield a magical weapon of choice, which contains some of their life force. They can usually conjure up a fire or shield themselves from rain or stay cool in the heat. As for sense enhancement, this can manifest in different ways as well; some have gifted vision or hearing or are able to scream in sonic waves; some can communicated with animals or plants or the ocean. Some have telepathy, some can even wield mind control. It all depends on the power of the nuthan and how much meditation they have done. Nuthan are not supposed to kill, therefore they don’t eat meat either. If they must kill for the sake of war or self defense, they must meditate after to cleanse their life force.

Namthan: Generally bronze eyed if they are very powerful, but usually have the same color eyes as any other human. These humans with magical abilities have longer lifespans but are not necessarily immortal; they must meditate and not kill or steal for 400 more years to achieve immortality. They could also be the children of nuthan and humans. These can wield 3 powers at once at a smaller degree, such as gifted sight, hearing, and strength, at once, or perhaps yielding fire and cloud travel and healing, or hone one power to full strength, such as controlling a tsunami or teleporting continents away or shapeshifting.

Yeuthan: There are different types of yeuthan; beast aspect yeuthan, human aspect yeuthan, immortal yeuthan, and high immortal yeuthan. They are yeuthan because they have consumed the life force of another for their own gain. Beast aspect are those who were once animal spirits and consumed the life force of either 4 animal spirits or 1 human spirit and are now human-like but never fully human. Human aspect are those humans who were once null (non-magical) but have drained the life force of 4 humans or even 1 namthan for magical abilities. Immortal yeuthan are yeuthan who have stolen the life force of 14 namthan for immortality. Some high yeuthan can become high immortal yeuthan by draining the life force of a nuthan, All yeuthan can be identified by their red eyes. The children of yeuthan are also yeuthan, and get to choose to be animals or human when they are 16. If they choose, they must meditate for that two years until they are 18 and abstain from killing as well. If an adult yeuthan wants to repent, they may meditate for 500 years to revert back to their original status before they became yeuthan.

Day 2: Geography

Penday is split into 8 continents, each continent split into regions according to the feature of that region. Each continent has a major desert, forest, tropical, mountain, and plains region. Some continents may contain subsections of these cilmates, or have double or triple or varying in sizes. Some continents have additional climates and terrains. Every continent is surrounded by Mother Ocean. Sketch to come eventually.

Day 1: Introduction

Introducing: Penday (from the Cambodian “phendei” for “earth”)

Penday is an Earth-like world, except with magic and magical people. There is a race of immortals called “Nuthan” (from the Vietnamese “nu than” for “goddess”) who have varying degrees of power. On some continents, the nuthan rule as nobility and kings, and choose to live above humans in the skies or in the mountains. In other countries, nuthan live among humans as equals and it is not looked down upon to befriend or wed or work for them. The Sky Emperor is the most powerful immortal of them all, though it is rare even for an extremely powerful nuthan to ever meet the Sky Emperor. Among the population there are also mortals with powers who are called namthan. They are those humans who have meditated for thousands of years to gain magical abilities or animals who have meditated thousands of years to become human, although they do not have immortality. There are also yeuthan, or the children of yeuthan, who are humans or animals or immortals who have sucked the lifeforce of another to become human or to become immortal or to gain power, and lowly regarded.

Penday is split into continents, and every continent is split by terrain. Each continent also has an entrance to the underworld, called “Diangut”, with a powerful immortal, the “Mahan”, that resides over that continent’s piece of Diangut. The Mahan is in charge of the safe passage of spirits into the underworld, making sure they do not try and go back to their past life, and monitoring their reincarnation into the next life. If any deceased have spirits that are still hanging onto Penday, the Mahan sends his people to collect them.
