Is A Pendulum Trickery or Magic?
A pendulum can be one of the most controversial items in a Wiccan’s arsenal purely because of the fact that people don't understand it.
A lot of what goes on in Wicca is misconceived as “magic”, of course there is much magic around here but about 90% of the time, the stuff that looks like trickery or magic is really just you!
A pendulum, much like tarot cards, works through you... Rather, you work through it. Once again, it’s a higher consciousness thing. Your energy!
Pendulum use dates back hundreds, if not thousands of years! Witches all over have relied on the pendulum for things as simple as gardening to things like spirit communication (this is when the pendulum is not using your energy anymore, rather someone else, but inviting someone else energy to flow through you to your held pendulum isn’t something to be toyed with.)
So what happens during active pendulum activity? If you take a look at how to do it, then you might understand better. The first step is the position of holding the pendulum. There are lots of ways, but what I personally find best is wrapping the chain once around my finger and then letting it drop, holding the chain with my index and thumb. This way I find it’s harder to manipulate the pendulums movements with your physical; which is easy to do accidentally!
Once the pendulum is in the position that feels most right for you, this is when you ask the pendulum to show you the possible answers you’re looking for. You can say “show me yes” and the pendulum may swing clockwise, or left to right, or whichever direction, sometimes the pendulum might just buzz. After you’ve determined and are confident in understanding what the pendulum is saying; you’re ready to use it!
What’s happening during this is just your higher consciousness flowing through the pendulum to move it energetically. Yes, I’m saying that you’re moving it with your mind! Not really in a ‘dr strange’ type of way, but yes, very close to it.
Now you can ask it questions. But keep in mind that a pendulum can run out of energy, you’ll know this by how it starts to muddle up answers or just not work at all.
