This is a tough question - I hold a lot of her songs near and dear to my heart! I think Sadie is my favorite. The meaning it holds for Joanna is compelling, and it was a song I first heard and listened to during a tumultuous time of my life. It helped me transition and grow, as odd as it sounds.
22. When and how did you discover Joanna’s music?
I can’t exactly pinpoint when I discovered her. I remember listening to a cover of Peach, Plum, Pear by Straylight Run but never connected it to Joanna. My ex gave me her whole discography in early 2015 and I eased into her music after a bit of reluctance. Her work is complex and filled with layers, and it certainly was difficult to digest!
24. Have you seen Joanna live? Have you gotten to meet her?
Oh, how I wish! I nearly purchased tickets when she came to St. Paul in 2015 promoting her album Divers. I had only just begun listening to her music maybe two or three months prior, and I didn’t have anyone who wanted to go.
40. If you could play one Joanna song for the world to listen to, what would it be?
Again, this is a tough question! If I could play one song in hopes that it would intrigue people enough to listen to more of her music, I would choose Good Intentions Paving Company. It’s an approachable, upbeat tune that just leaves you feeling good and happy!
