and in the trough of the waves which are pawing like dogs pitch we, pale-faced and grave as i write in my log then i hear a noise from the hull seven days out to sea and it is the damnable bell and it tolls — well, i believe that it tolls — it tolls for me and it tolls for me

At first glance, the rescue operation of this cottage and outbuildings seemed almost impossible. However, Petra & Epe decided to try, and is it sweet.
All furniture is recycled, obtained or inherited. The sofa is from Petra’s grandmother, and they already bought the armchair for their first home. In the cottage it is allowed to shine in the light of the crystal chandelier.
Petra’s favorite color combination is red and turquoise. An all-white space or, alternatively, mere shades of wood do not inspire her.
The bedroom wallpaper pattern is called Midsummer Rose. Cross-stitch works obtained from flea markets emphasize the nostalgic atmosphere. As the cottage improved, so did the enthusiasm to do more.
History is still present everywhere. Part of it are old deer antlers that have always been a part of the interior.
The kitchen cabinets are assembled from two 1950s-60s cabinets, cleaned and aged in the old way with the help of beer. Epe’s beloved tiger-themed rag rugs often evoke laughter in cottage guests.
This unique ceramic vase is Petra’s own creation.
The exterior of the gazebo is decorated with linen oil paints and pigment inspired by Petra’s heritage- In Eastern Europe, old rural women still decorate buildings with floral paintings.
Cute vintage swing. In the background, the sauna cottage awaits renovation.
The cottage landscape blooms profusely both indoors and in the yard. Some of the flowers are tamed in the ceramic vase made by Petra.

Sonia Delaunay was a Ukrainian-born French artist who was born on this day in 1885. Delaunay was a co-founder of Orphism, a branch of Cubism that focused on pure abstraction and bright colors and that expounded Simultanism, the belief in the existence in an infinite number of interrelated states of being.

Artist’s statement:
“In the series, cross stitch embroidery has been sewn directly into family photographs. The images are broken down and reformed through the embroidery into a hand-sewn pixel structure. As areas of the image are concealed by the embroidery, small, seemingly trivial details emerge while the larger picture and context are erased. I am interested in the disjunct between actual experience and photographic representation and photography’s ability to supplant memory. By borrowing the visual language of digital imaging with an analog process, a connection is made between forgetting and digital file corruption. The tactility of the pieces also references the growing trend of photos remaining primarily digital- stored on cell phones and hard drives, but rarely printed out into a tangible object.”
