New #HornedWarriorFriends! “Why Do You Always Do This” Penguicorn can’t seem to get anything right. Silly Penguicorn!
This blog is amazing. uhm i just started my senior year, it been 2 days but it seems like the summer was never there and i'm mid year into school. The pressure is insane. I have a Math, Physics, Chem and Eco HL and french and english SL. I am not doing very well in french, i got a 3 in my first semester and a 4 in the end of grade 11. Do you know how i can pull that grade up? Also you're at cornell :O i really want to go there. Do you think this would affect my college applications?
Hi there! Thank you :D I’m glad you like the blog, I try my best ^-^ Senior year is definitely as close as you get to hell in IB so keep holding on! I did not take French (I finished Spanish junior year) but I would suggest talking to your teacher at lunch/after school/before school/whenever she’s available and ask her how you can improve. I’m sure she’ll be able to give you some great advice specific to your case and maybe even pity you more in the grading process (lol) because you made an effort to talk to her. I’m pretty sure I’ve played that card before haha. Asking for help will only improve your performance, never worsen it, so don’t be afraid to do it :). I’m sure you can pull the grade up if you talk to her and pay special attention to what you struggle with (vocab? grammar? verbs? speaking/writing?). Figure out what your biggest problem is and improve that. If it’s a bit of everything, keep talking with your teacher and I’m sure she’ll be willing to help. Lots of teachers also begin offering review times as the IB exam looms, so take advantage of those. They are really great! (If she doesn’t offer them now, ask her if she’d be willing to do so. It will help out your classmates too and they’ll all love you for it, since review sessions are voluntary attendance).
And yay Cornell is great :D! I can’t wait to go back, in fact D’: August 25th is taking its sweet time… And grades always have an effect on college applications, but it depends on how large the effect is! I got A’s and B’s pretty consistently (more A’s than B’s but the B’s were still there! Pretty sure I may have gotten a C once but it wasn’t for the full year, just one semester/quarter I think), but because of weighted IB classes, my weighted gpa was still relatively high. I can’t remember what it was tbh but I ended up being ranked like low 20s out of 365 kids or so (I remember the number was around there, I think, because I remember thinking “that’s how many days there are in a year! d’oh"). I definitely feel like my GPA was not a favorable factor in my application process, but I made up for it with initiative and a wide range of interests/abilities (The CAS system is basically what they look for—creative ability, some athletic interest… not totally necessary but not a bad thing, and service. Leadership as well! But I sucked at that haha, more like independent initiative for me.). I hope this helps you out some! If you have any more questions, send them on over c: and good luck!!!! Tell me if you end up going to Cornell (or wherever you end up going c:) I love to hear it!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
THANK YOU!
