Torrence hopped down from the military transport and slung his shotgun over one shoulder. He sighed and cocked his head, stepping up to the slight woman standing before him. Torrence waved the camo uniformed men away to continue sweeping the city for survivors, walkers and supplies. 

She didn’t look like much, but looks were often deceiving. “So, where did you come from?”

He had been told she was born with a heart condition. That raised an eyebrow on the elder Munster, since usually such children were culled before many more resources were put into a weak child, but she was kept in case she could be useful in ‘other’ ways. Research, for example. Her DNA was sequenced and genetic markers were attempted to be identified that lead to genetic abnormalities that may have led to the defect, and eliminate it from the population.

Otherwise, she might have been used in a breeding program, being young and pretty. 

D wasn’t entirely happy about it. He hated to have a human ‘pet’ that died shortly after receiving her, but these days he couldn’t be picky. She might even survive the hunt and he might find a way to fix her heart, at least make her strong enough to last a few years.

“Release her,” he finally said to the game warden. His prey would be let into a massive fenced reserve, with plenty of other animals roaming free. “I’ll, give her a plenty long head start. She may even surprise us.”

“Is that what you think of me?” John asked as he took the young woman in with a thoughtful gaze. His head tilted to the side minutely. “That I say what you’d like to hear and then leave you high and dry when you’ve outlived your usefulness?”

A small ghost of a smile crossed over his face. “My dear, you’ve got the wrong politician. I am truly dedicated to the citizens of Cheyenne and all over Wyoming.”

Robert hated hell. He was sure long before he made his pact that he would despise it with the passion of hellfire itself. Never really a good Christian, he still tried to lead a good life and be a good person in general. It wasn’t until he was at his lowest point that he sold his soul to try and stop Nazi German domination of Europe. 

He still would have done it again in a heartbeat, even with the pain in his head from the constant sound of tortured shrieks and wails that will be with him for eternity.

At least now he was allowed to return to the mortal world, though he had to do the same as the demon who came to him... offer a deal with the devil.

“Troubles that plague mankind and vast and numerous,” he decided to open with something thought provoking.

Silently the vampire stalked the human, hiding in the long shadows that marked the night. Massive bat-like wings were folded tight against his back as he slowly moved behind her, pale eyes flickering with a red tint as they absorbed all available light to see clearly in the darkness. 

He took in a deep breath, absorbing her scent in through elongated nasal passages with a large, turned up nose. In monstrous form, D looked rather like a cross between a man and a bat. It was the perfect form to hunt with large ears, nose and talons, with the added bonus of striking from the air.

But his quarry was small and frail, he could tell she was weak and he wondered what she was doing there, alone, at night. Curiosity forced him to stalk her, watching and waiting.

D tipped his head, looking at the waifish woman. “I was about to ask ‘you’re not happy?’ but no, of course you’re not. You’re still a slave, being kept like a pet by a vampire.”

"Please, let me ride with you. There's someone after me!" Tamara (pennyatale) gasped, stumbling to a halt near the older man. She looked back over her shoulder frantically.

After pulling open the door of his stolen car, Abel stopped and stared at the young woman in the dark. He scowled at her, unmoved, for a beat before shrugging. If she thought she was safer with a complete stranger, who was he to argue?

Then again, she could be a murderer herself. Either way, it would prove to be an interesting night.

“Get in.”
