Hide and Seek (epilogue)
Just because things didn’t go according to plan, it doesn’t mean they went bad.
The Deadlights were a naturally occurring phenomenon that existed with the Prim, perhaps before. Gan had noted that where ever there was life, a patch of Deadlights loomed, and when the Deadlights passed, new life formed. Creation, followed by consumption, followed by new creation, and more consumption, in an endless cycle. The balance kept everything in order.
So when He spun physical universe together, Gan created two entities to embody these powers. The Turtle, infused with His life giving powers of creation, and another creature, fashioned from a large patch of Deadlights to consume the old and make way for the new. At the time Gan had thought them perfect, but as time went on, He realized He had made a mistake with the creature of Consumption.
It was a wild, directionless thing that understood only It’s own hunger, not It’s purpose, so It consumed blindly, spreading fear among the cosmos and taking joy in doing so. The fear made It hated, It’s lack of understanding led to none understanding It. And as It failed to connect with any other form of life, unable to relate to anyone, or express Itself to, Gan realized He had created the loneliest creature in all reality.
Such a pity.
Lives were lost to It’s appetite, as Gan had planned, but the creature abandoned It’s duties to follow It’s indulgences. Reality filled up with no Consumer to devour the dead and dying worlds. It needed to come back, but It would not listen. Not to Him, nor to It’s brother. It was lonely, and angry, It blamed them for It’s isolation.
Gan had an idea. It would not listen to them because It could not relate to them, so surely if there came a creature It could relate to, then surely It would listen to them. So Gan set forth a plan, to mold a new monster from a fresh patch of Deadlights, and sent them down to Earth to meet with the Consumer. The creature was primarily using the form of a human Male, either going by the name Robert Gray, or dressing Itself as a clown by the name Pennywise. The new creature decided it was best to approach in the form of a female to attract It’s attention.
This was where the plan went wrong. When ‘she’ arrived on Earth, Pennywise had fallen asleep and she had to wait for It to reawaken before they could meet. While It slept, she had encountered another. A mortal man, whom she found attractive, and perhaps even loved for a time. She married him, loved him, and bore him a daughter. But the child of a mortal and a Deadlights creature would never last. She gave up her Deadlights to allow the child to live. Her own body lasted only a few years without them before she died from what would be called cancer..
The Deadlights would remain dormant within the child, Beverly, until she reached maturity.
A half human, half Deadlight creature was surely an abomination. A full Deadlights creature such as her mother could control her life stealing abilities, but humans had less mental control, any partner she took would succumb to the Deadlights, She would have to die. So Gan had arranged for Pennywise to find her when It awoke. It would kill her, and reclaim her Deadlights into a creature that could control them...
But yet...
Pennywise was drawn to Beverly, and Beverly to Pennywise. The Consumer cared not that she was half human, It recognized the Deadlights within her and took her as a mate. The pair moved between worlds now, Beverly’s human half could not sustain herself on the cosmos as Pennywise could, so she traveled universes experiencing all they had to offer before her mate came and consumed them.
The Deadlights within her would keep Beverly alive. Perhaps eternally, perhaps not. But it would be a very long time before that became an issue worth investigating. Gan was relieved in the knowledge that, for now, the they were happy in each other’s company. In teaching Beverly about herself, Pennywise was learning much more about Itself as well, and had since become a bit more agreeable.
They were not in anyway prepared to discuss the possibility of further breeding, making more of their own kind. Pennywise had many times attempted to create offspring asexually, that had been met with failure. Gan had forbidden It to have children. But with It’s mate now, perhaps in time, Gan could allow such a thing. Only Pennywise displayed to ability to eat worlds. Offspring would likely take after their mother...
Oh...
No sense in thinking of such things now. After all, somethings never go as planned, and that was not always such a bad thing...
