Penjing 盆景, also known as penzai 盆栽, is the ancient Chinese art of depicting artistically formed trees, other plants, and landscapes in miniature.

Since at least the 1st century AD, Taoist mysticism has included the recreating of magical sites in miniature to focus and increase the properties found in the full-size sites. There were legends dating from at least the 3rd and 4th centuries of Taoists said to have had the power to shrink whole landscapes down to small vessel size.

The earliest-known graphic dates from 706 AD and it shows two maid servants carrying penjing with miniature trees.

Second Look, Snowrose Bonsai~

First styling after a year of just pruning it back. Lots more to do, but the main structure is now there. The pruning resulted in the beginning of ramification, I’ll be looking to slowly develop more branching over the next few years.

I have a number of delightful little bonsai, but one of my current favorites is this lovely desert rose (Adenium obesum) that my girlfriend and I recently purchased at the local nursery.

While this set of flowers are on their way out, another set will soon replace them, and even without the flowers the plant is still lovely and fun to look at.

When we style this one we're likely to get the upper branches spiraling in opposite directions, but we haven't yet decided what to do with the lower portions. Thankfully we have some time before we make any decisions.

The Most Beautiful Bonsai Trees Ever                                                                

Bonsai trees are awesome. They look beautiful, they fit in your house, they encourage patience and dedication, they relieve stress, and they help to purify the air. What’s not to like?

People have been caring for Bonsai trees for over a thousand years. The ancient horticultural practice originated in China, where it was known as “penzai”, and was later redeveloped under the influence of Japanese Zen Buddhism.   Source:..boredpanda

Recently acquired Japanese Black Pine developing into a semi-cascade. I have a nice, slightly bowled piece of stone I'll transfer it into next spring.
