The Watergate Committee footage is wild.
One of my favorite places to people watch is at the amusement park. You frequently spot the same people all day long. Sometimes you get little glimpses into their life too.
Yesterday, I went to an amusement park. It was a senior day for high school students, a music competition for middle school, and then there were members of neither group.
Here we’re some of my favorite people spotted:
1) Pro-abortion teen girl with awesome pants, and pride Superman cape.
2) Older (maybe French-Canadian) Dad with a huge mustache
3) Small man with long black hair and giant lettered Puerto Rico shirt
4) His Puerto Rican flag shirt female comrade who kept petting his hair.
5) A group of four middle schoolers I observed. One may have a had a history of trauma. Her method of showing love and interest for her friends involved insulting them, pushing them, and forcibly grabbing them.
6) “Boil’em, Mash’em, Stick’em in a stew” guy.
7) “Just chilling” toucan tee-shirt dad. He looked like J.J. Simmons mixed with Christopher Lloyd.
8) The young goths of America.
These were just a few of my favorite people’s watched. When a new person would become noticed we would exclaim “A new character has emerged.”
Fun pants, short-hair cuts, and converse were some of the favorite clothing choices.
Honestly, the best thing about DS9 is the people-watching. There’s a whole subculture of dock-watchers who go to docking bays to watch visitors unloading from their transports. Quark’s and the Promenade are also good spots for that. Personally, I like to walk around the habitat ring until I see someone interesting: a Vedek laughing hysterically with a layperson friend, someone leaving a room full of mud, a trio of Romulans in paint-splattered uniforms... Do Romulans ever take off their uniforms? And the alien species! Aliens with feathers, with scales, with spots, with stripes. Wrinkled and ridged aliens like the Klingons, smooth-faced “melty” aliens like humans, aliens with horns and claws. I’ve seen all sorts, and they’re always a delight. I treasure the oddest ones: the party of aliens, all shades of green and purple and blue, covered in faintly glowing globes on stalks (were they eyes or lures?), the very tall masked aliens with massive horns who had to duck to clear the doorways and couldn’t hear the Ferengi speaking; the graceful blue fuzzy one with a prehensile tail who smelled like the Fire Caves; the family from the Gamma Quadrant who carried artificial gravity generators but turned them off to try running for the first time (how they laughed!); the three-eyed alien who blinked one eye at a time, around and around in a triangle, regular as the computer.
I adore people-watching. I miss all our aliens every time I leave DS9.
I went to NYC recently - people there are BEYOND fashionable and I adore it.
