The People's Paper Co-op is in full swing!!!!  We have an incredible team of folks out on the corner every day! Working with lawyers, artists, activists, and community members to foster local economic opportunities and clear barriers to re-entry. We just held our first criminal record expungement clinic...where people were able to begin clearing their records. They then printed their record out, tore it up, stuck it in a blender, and made a beautiful new sheet of paper.  We're embedding their writing and photos into these sheets and sewing them together to create a giant paper-quilt to be used for political advocacy.  Check it out!!

People's Library, two of our Artists in Residency, are featured in the NYT for their photography postcard project asking prisoners across the US what they would want to see from their window--and what they wish people could see inside their prisons. They'll be addressing incarceration and re-entry in North Philly during their residency, too, and how it affects our neighborhood.

NYPD Black Helmeted Storm Troopers Burn 5,554 Books In Dark Of Night /// #OWS Responds Quickly

.....this raid under the cover of night shows the true face of who a corporate controlled police force is working for and shows it to all Americans not just those who usually experience it -- which is a wake-up call that lot of the country needs. The police didn't "clear the park of protesters" -- they destroyed a library with 5,554 volumes, they destroyed a kitchen that was feeding thousands of people a day, they destroyed bicycle generators that were making green power and a gray water system, a medical tent, a peaceful assembly. These are the things that they find threatening. And that tells us a great deal about which side they are on.
