Grammie Gabbie

When I was 5, I took the Amtrak to Oakland to visit Grannie. She was in her eighties and nearly 3 years from passing.

We walked to the corner shop. She lived in a building in downtown and close to everything, the Paramount, and many of the little markets where she picked up odds and ends.

It was around Christmas and Papa had passed that year and my folks thought it would be good if I went early for Christmas break as her apartment was quite compact.

Grannie only shopped for dinner that day so she picked up all her things and we headed back.

As we turned the corner onto Shattuck, a lady blocked our way. She had blue hair and a very stricking outfit. Quite fashionable I would say now looking back.

“She pulled the lady with her fist around her pearl necklace and peter pan collar and pulled her close to her eighty year old face, not flinching a second. This lady had to be only 50. And she was shaking like a leaf of my grammie what she would do or was capable to having done.”

Omg grammie is in the mafia.

I love my grammie. God bless her
